Can't remember the name of the road, but it is as you come into Guildford of the A31 but not via the A3. You come down from 60 to 50 to 40 to 30, which is on a hill. Come into the 30 limit and there is the Scamera van, facing up the hill right in front of an island for pedestrians to cross at. So now they can't see what is going to hit them. I decide to take a few pictures of this as it is plainly stupid. Mr plod takes exception to this. Comes over an asks why I am taking pictures of his van. I say that I think it is parked dangerously. He says it isn't a crossing, even though the island has slopped kerbs for push chairs and is a logical place to cross. He even says that it is not a problem as maintenance vans fixing the bolards would have to park there(?). Then he says that he is nothing to do with the camera partnership and the reason he is there is that a young kid got run over and kill last week on this stretch of road. I then questioned his professional judgement by blocking the safest place to cross. At this point he started saying I could be a terrorist and threatened to take my camera or even arrest me. Twat. I will be posting the picts soon.

At least while he was talking to me he wasn't catching anyone.

Surrey Police, hmm, not the most respected bunch of coppers in the country thats for sure. My girlfriend now despises traffic cars/cops after getting 3 points when she really didn't need to (i.e. a slap would have obviously worked). They were rude to her and generally a pair of to55ers. Still, she took it to court and got them both off the street for a whole day.

We can keep dreaming until the day arrives when terrorists do target Talivans!

No, not a death threat - just a wish!

The pea-brained, including the government, are using terrorism as an excuse for a whole host of new restrictions.

Surely the only word that should be removed from the original post is "Surrey"

About 2 years ago I got a letter from a Surrey Police lady. I had apparently driven in a restricted road somwhere between Purley and the M25. The residents were unhappy that vehicles were still using the road. I was warned that if I did it again I would receive a fixed penalty.
I had never been anywhere near the place and wrote to her asking for an explanation. I also told her how pleased the residents of the road must be that Surrey police had the time and resources to devote to their concerns. Eventually I got a garbled response on my answer phone that there had been some sort of problem and the REg was transposed somewher along the line and they would write to me. I have never heard anything since.

That second picture with the arrow over the van really is asking for a caption

I have to agree with you though it does look like a rather retarded place to park the van, and i would think that the island is regularly used by pedestrians as a crossing point. I think its safe to say the chap you spoke to is a bit of a nobber.

Not sure if your post if for or against, but obscuring a crossing that kids could use can't be good.

i drive down the Farnham Road every day at work, and they used to be on the pavement which is quite wide further up on the left, to where the picture shows this van now. I am ok with them being there but where the kids have only one place to cross he is parked, then I am sorry but he truely is a numpty!!

As posted by others on Blatchat it is worth sending them to the local rag..

Similar thing happened in Derby, the scamera partnership units kept parking in dangerous and sometimes illegal places. The local paper, after receiving a photo of one parked illegally, ran an article on the front page asking people to send them more evidence and photos. Within 2 days the BIB issued a statement saying they would only park them up where it is legally safe to do so and in designated parking areas. Seems to have worked...

Unless its automatic the guy has even folded in his door mirrors..

Scammers in Todmorden used to park on a wide section of pavement, just out of sight over the crest of a hill.

Instead of finding somewhere safer to scam, they spent money having a large chunk of the pavement torn up to make a layby for their scam van. Of course this isn't a public layby, oh no it's clearly marked up as "scammers only."
