Recent experience on m1 near Sheffield on the (what seems like miles) 50 bit going north
In outside lane when they appear in rear view, can't brake as they're almost close enough for me to smell their breath
Can't speed up as already doing 51
Cars packed as tightly as sardines in middle lane
Cranked it up an extra mile an hour to snail ahead of a couple of cars in middle lane to slot in which felt like an eternity with the blue lights burning my retina's, was probably a minute
Could you appeal if done for speeding in this scenario?
Fortunately the car in front of me in outside lane didn't have to deal with this problem as they flicked off the lights and pulled into the services just after they rocket shipped past me!

If it was a 50, the threshold is at 57 when they feel they can now shove a nail in you.

I would hope they would understand if averaged above for that reason, but they are a different breed, quite delusional at times, harass people under guise of doing pure good, strictly apply their harassment protocol and decisions to inflict their will for the smallest infraction they can, act like they are not making a large group of drivers unsafe in "the motions" they inflict on a driver who was entirely safe beforehand, because the law allows them to do it, and they would be better off sat in the cold, trying to understand why the office is charcoal if persisted in this situation.
Which I would expect them to do, just my opinion though.

This is about the best you can do. Certainly don’t speed up. It seems the police had inadequate forward observation and planning to get trapped in like that, combined with the fact that most cars don’t see police on blues coming up from behind early enough. If you make frequent mirror checks you can see them early enough.You should not:
Break speed limits
Go up onto kerbs
Go through red lights
To allow emergency service past you.
It is there job to plan ahead for a space, they are/should be trained for that
I would just do what you did - it’s most unlikely they’re going to a life or death situation.

They are, in theory, trained to read the road better than us and are allowed to travel at greater speeds than us so should be the best drivers on the roads
Getting up the arse of average Joe motorist on a speed restricted section of Rd with no where to go tells me they are no better than some yoof in an XR3I(showing my age)

It won’t work. As I was told by a police officer who, when off duty, got done in a similar way, and his appeal was rejected.Average speed cameras are quite forgiving if you feel the need to briefly blip your speed up to facilitate an overtake - it only needs 2 or 3 MPH and you can return back to the limit soon after if you so desire. There is also the fact that most speedos will overread by a couple of MPH (always worth checking this against GPS or a measured mile). Add the fact that enforcement generally starts at 10% of the limit + 2mph there is little need to crawl past traffic in the lane to your left at a snail's pace. It also increases the danger posed by being in other drivers' blind spots for longer, though I'm conscious of this and avoid it if at all possible by hanging back for a short time and then increasing speed a tad to pass.

If your car has an average speed readout it can be beneficial resetting this as you pass a SPECS camera and see what it reads when you reach the next one, taking speedo overread into account.

Maintain speed, indicate left and wait. It’s not your responsibility to put yourself at risk of getting nicked because of a plod car wanting to get somewhere. In outside lane when they appear in rear view, can't brake as they're almost close enough for me to smell their breath

Only works if you know where the next camera is, or you risk getting caught out.Sit at the limit until you can move out of the way. If they want to install cameras with zero flexibility then you can't drive with any either.

That's a direct instruction. No police officer should tell you to speed up. FWIW I wouldn't speed up if I was the OP. Signal so they know I've seen them and pull over when I can.
I'd also not expect anyone to speed up to let me pass when I'm on a blue light run. If they do that's down to them.
