Plod driving a BEV
Discussion
Not suitable for the emergency service role, these vehicles are absolutely horsed round the clock and finding time to refuel can be problematic never mind time to recharge.
Obviously there are financial and image incentives for throwing livery on EV's but in reality it's a fruitless exercise.

"Police forces in the UK have more than 430 electric vehicles on their fleets and in excess of 808 chargers."
Old data so will be more now no doubt.
Perhaps one for the EV forum.

First time I've seen a fully marked up BEV. A Tesla Model3 to be precise. No pics unfortunately as he left a Sainsbury's car park just as I entered..anyone else seen Plod in a BEV ?
Mk1 Nissan leaf panda car in Cheltenham. Fully marked. About 6 years ago. One problem with their EV Toyota estates is that when carrying 2 policeman & their usual equipment they are at the maximum permissible weight so cannot carry anyone in the rear seats.
Sussex have a Tesla Model S I think.
I was driving down the M23 a few weeks back, thinking to myself "don't fear those Tesla rear lights when you approach them as the Police don't drive BEVs yet".
Literally 2 minutes later, blue lights approaching from behind. I pull over to allow it past and a white Model S covered in Battenburg flies past me.

I do know that they have "100% Electric Vehicle" in a significantly larger font than the word "Police". Virtue signalling and priorities come to mind.
Presumably they're swapping out all their diesel Corsas for EV & keeping the high powered BMWs for high speed chases? I imagine there are budget limits so overall there will be less police vehicles (??)
I remain to be convinced this is a good idea, particularly in the case of a major incident being declared somewhere & all units being urgently required to attend.....

In July 2022 Gloucestershire police had 435 vehicles with 21% being EVs; which was then the highest percentage of any police force. The number has increased since then.

Theres no Toyota EV estates. I think you are confusing EVs with Toyota's self charging hybrid corollas. One problem with their EV Toyota estates is that when carrying 2 policeman & their usual equipment they are at the maximum permissible weight so cannot carry anyone in the rear seats.
