Gatso on the A4, westbound, just West of Chiswick Roundabout has just received a low armco barrier, I assume to avoid being trashed deliberately.

Now I've worked in the offices on the Eastbound carriageway for 16 months and it's not been targeted.

Any of the London BIB care to enlighten us?

Probably for safety in the event of an accident rather than to protect the gatso.

Hitting deformable armco is much preferrable to a solid post.

There are much easier ways to destroy a gatso than writing your car off into it.

Does that mean we can expect to see armco around every peice of road furniture?

Hehe - just a thought - if we put armco round the vehicles instead we would always be protected. And no more supermarket door opening damage.

That piece of road is appalling for accidents ...... the Gatso probably does need collision protection!

My job is to manage fatal or very serious accidents - I dealt with a triple fatal there about 18 months ago and that was within sight of flowers from another double fatal about a month before that ! It was the most unpleasant experience I have ever had - and I've been to at least 90 so it's not like I'm not used to them !!

One of my colleagues dealt with 4 fatals on that stretch of the A4 in about a month.

It really is a bad bit of road, but it just doesn't look it when you drive it - I hate to say it as it isn't always the case but nearly all of the fatal collisions there seem to be as a result of inappropriate speed and a loss of control.

I cover a quarter of London and no other road seems to give us such a hard time as the A4 beyond the Chiswick Roundabout.

Posh people use the nice bit of A4 east of chiswick roundabout.

Chavs from Hounslow and Staines use the A4 west of Chiswick roundabout.

Explained the problems yet?
