I think you’re missing the point somewhat.

Nobody would have criticised your lack of DIY skills if you hadn’t been so condescending about the sales assistants at Screwfix…

Ok, I think I was assuming high water pressure but sounds like you have very low pressure which can also cause tapes to drip - the reason being some taps (ceramic valves and cartridge based) rely on a certain amount of water pressure in order to seal properly. Suspect they may have been fine when initially fitted but as soon as you get a bit of wear of scale build up they started to drip?

I fit my own taps.

I hate fitting my own taps as I need I specific set of tools.

Even with these tools they often come loose and i need to contort myself into various, painful, positions to get the them tight.

I have bought multiple taps, both expensive and ebay cheap.

I've never had a tap leak from the nozzle.

I doubt this story but OP in your case ask your fitter to come back and check? If the tap is fooked then return and get another. Unfortunately no one is to blame ergo you can't complain to anyone...sorry

I really should kick myself for not being any good at DIY. I mean seriously, what sort of idiot must I be?
I dunno. It's quite an easy DIY job though.

Are you physically incapable?

Don't be too hard on the OP.

He was trying to be cool and down with da PH boyz, hoping that the PH massive would congratulate him on his wit and repartee. They'd all sympathise with him and pat him on the back as a good ol' boy.

Sadly, that plan has backfired. Poor OP.

Don't be like the OP.

Everyone has a skill set, all different, my brother rang me once because his car wouldn't start.
I asked him if there were any lights on the dash, his reply was well only one , looks like a petrol can!!!!!
But i cant teach english at uni level like he can.
But hes also not rude to others who have a different skill than him like the op.

The ignorance on PH is always so entertaining to read, really adds some flavour to my mornings internet readings so thank-you for the laughs! Everyone has their own skill sets and things they aren't comfortable with - welcome to life.

No issue with SF or the staff there, my comment was relating to 1 individual who I have encountered there. One experience / individual does not translate into an overall opinion.

No, very physically able. And over the course of my life have taken on more and more DIY jobs / projects successfully. But plumbing, electrics, building work all way outside my ability. Total lack of tools, experience, understanding, willingness, time or confidence. I don't mind paying in these areas, because historically, if I get involved I make it worse then there is more work to do afterwards. I am also OCD, and phobic of doing a bad job / breaking something. That will never change, so it is what it is.

Taps come with difficult spaces, specific tools and an understanding of how they connect and flow - sometimes with multiple feeds (like under my kitchen sink where I have joints, clips and all manner of ins and outs).

So this month alone we have you starting these threads

Associated costs of returning "installed" hardware
Amazon - returns / repairs
Wheel full of water?
Earbuds that don't break within months?

Are you the unluckiest consumer in the UK or is there some other explanation?

I have standards, and won't be mugged off. So yes, I do research and question everything. Works for me!

All of the above bar the taps (if they are even a real issue) have been resolved. Quite happy to ask questions and challenge anything. More people should do more of that in general.

Maybe they had a low tolerance of idiots.

In any case your wording was general, not specific to one staff member. Seems English isn’t your proficiency either.

I accept my initial turn of phrase wasn't ideal. But it wasn't plural.

I don't have issue with tradesman - quite the opposite, I have relied on them all my life. A few are now friends of mine - and yes, I do ask them advice but also I don't believe work crosses well with personal life so I like to keep the balance. I am well aware of my shortcomings, hence, I research some stuff outside of my friends group.

Obviously my comments have generated some defensiveness among a particular cohort, which is really interesting - when you bear in mind the abuse some other cohorts receive regularly on these forums and elsewhere on social media.

One example being in SP&L where a long running thread speaks of an "urban gorilla" doing their job. That's life, that's perception, lingual choice and also the diversity of freedom permitted by choosing to take part in the forums.

When I have replaced a tap and made the connection to the pipes it has caused a tiny piece of debris to be washed though into the ceramic cartridge which will cause a drip. The tap needs to be removed and have the ceramic cartridge disassembled and have any debris washed out. I have seen such debris with my own eyes.

I use Screwfix and Toolstation as they will take anything back as a return even if it's "my fault".

That doesn't appear to be quite true though. Your Amazon thread states "Over the years I have sent numerous things back and some of it of a decent value, every single time without fail, it is lost.". Yet every other poster on the thread without fail says the complete opposite and praises how good their return service is.

Why do you repeatedly have issues when nobody else does?

Great question.

Unfortunately I don't deal with my own post - so no idea. The trend is what I posted about, I didn't bh on the first occasion. However I did bh when it happened 3 times.
