For everyone saying I didn’t reply. It was due to it being a new account and I couldn’t for the first 14 days. I have received a letter and to show up in court.
In that case, I apologise.

If you haven't already done so, I'd get I touch with agtlaw on here ASAP. He will certainly be a great help to you.

But by god are there some holier than thou posters on this thread.
Totally, utterly this. PH is descending perpetually towards a 'Brake' outlook.

We have all sped. Some higher than others. I've certainly broken the limit by more than the OP on occasions. I had a 5 week ban when I'd had my licence for less than 2 years, 108/70 (it was at the time that 6 points = retest, which I dreaded)

IMO OP, this is the outcome you should aim for, a period off the road, then back to a licence with zero points once spent. The only speeding tickets I've had since are once at 84/70, once at 87/70, 13 years apart. According to some on here I should be bending over for the soap. Pistonheads. Speed (limits) matter. FFS.
Yeah, it's got to the stage where I wouldn't post up about getting caught, the forum knobheads are all too ready to drop the hammer and enjoy themselves doing it. Totally negative experience more often than not. Best plan if caught is to bypass the weirdos on here and go straight to AGT if required.

So many people are astonishingly gullible in this place :-)

1 post, ever, click bait,. Still, he's got people arguing by page 3 so fair play.
Funny thing is this is real. It’s happened now. Nothing can be done. I just asked what would happen and any help. Learning a lesson from this is expected. Some people have been helpful others have said the most common sense things.

It was a new account I couldn’t reply due to 14 day cool down period. Sorry for that.

Did the letter say what speed you're being accused of?
Charges: Driving without due care and attention.

I was very critical of you but you've come back, answered intelligently so now wish you my best. Listen to some of the advice on here and hopefully this will just be a snag.

Just musing...

How do the police prove the charge of driving without due care and attention? largely subjective.

Proving a speeding charge is relatively straightforward and objective (based on facts).

Definitely contact agtlaw by clicking on his profile on an earlier page. He is a barrister and has helped numerous PH members on motoring offences.

Not proud but I was pinged a few years back at 98 in a 50, court summons, lots of pathetic grovelling and 6 points and £100 fine. Kept my license and stomached the increased costs over the next few years.

That was then, this is now and things seem "harsher" and as a new driver that, if true, was consistently disregarding limits and travelling in excess of 100mph for a longer period of time, with an unmarked car following...

I'd echo the above and seek very good representation and show up at court suited and booted with the correct attitude and hope it lessens the decision, but I'd suspect driving home may be in doubt.

I know this is Pistonheads and I know we've all made mistakes - but 110mph in a 50mph zone and not noticing someone following you at that speed - after having your license for 10 months is next level for me. And probably why the new rules have been introduced.
They were "undercover" though, innit?

It's an objective test; did the driving fall below the standard of a competent and careful driver.

Evidence of Highway Code contravention is often used.

Could be wrong but I think if you get more than 6 points in the first 2 years of driving your license is revoked & you have to retake your theory and practical test once any ban has finished.
By the sound of it that's no bad thing as it should keep you off the road for some time!
My daughter got caught last year with 6 people in the car and driving over the speed limit. She had her licence for just 6 months .
She got 6 points ,£300 fine and her licence revoked.
At some point she will have to retake her test.
She learnt a valuable life lesson.
All young drivers should be made aware of this fact, as many aren’t aware that this is the consequence.
When she does take her test again she will still have the 6 points so insurance will be steep.

Proper parenting - well done. I'm sure you're glad the consequences weren't worse and life carries on.

Very much so. I think it was a big wake up call to both her and her circle of friends , a few who had already clocked up points the second.
She is at university now where she isn’t reliant on a car but it will hit home when she completes her degree in two years and needs a car for work.
The irony is that she is studying law…….

Why all the negative replies?
This used to be a website for people who enjoyed pressing on a bit. Seems to have degenerated into mumsnet.
Feel free to “press on”, but don’t come on here to complain when you get a driving ban and fined 150% of your weekly income. It was your choice and nobody else is to blame.
