I must be over thinking this and my google foo is failing. I'll try to make this as short as possible whilst covering all the salient points.

Trading my car in on Friday and need to sort insurance out.

Current policy on old car runs to June. I'm not worried about the ncb (i will be glad to see the back of the current insurer)

I don't appear to be able to insure the new car mirroring the no claims. I wont be able to cancel one policy and start a new one as im driving to the garage and picking the new one late Friday.

The garage is sorting the tax out (ie paid them)

I'm assuming they must offer some sort of drive away insurance so the car is covered until Monday?

I can be certain if I transfer the existing policy to the new car the insurers will absolutely cane me for the last month increase frown

Any pointers before I pick up the phone tomorrow?

Cheers for any input smile

Why are you looking to take out a new policy, rather than calling your insurer and changing the car on the existing policy ?

Usually for £10, you can get them.to cover both for a couple of weeks.

Some dealers offer 7 days 'get you home' insurance. But I would just ring your insurer, tell them what the new car is, when you want the policy to change, and pay any difference. There may be an admin charge depending on the insurer.

Then when the policy expires, you can shop around for a new insurer and tell them your NCB entitlement.

Hi Smokey

Seems the quote button is fubar frown

I dont want to transfer because (and im fairly certain of this given their previous) the insurer will rape me for the crossover month. That and there is no telephone support so no rational discussion!

Like for like cars one being two years younger..

edit: thanks for the other replies - if I change the policy online there will be no going back (and a big bill i think)

Surely, if you go online & put the details in, if you then go as far as payment & don't like the cost, just go elsewhere, couldn't be easier.

That’s the current plan smile

Given their previous conduct I’m not hopeful of a sensible additional cost though!

I’m sure you have but just make sure your existing cover is still in force for the car you are part exchanging until you arrive safely at the garage and then the new car cover is automatically in place.
Usually insurers should give you plenty of crossover time.

Yep

The insurance co make it pretty clear they give 24 hours overlap so all is good bow
