Could you please post where you work, what you earn, and what's it like in general, in case other PHers want to apply for your job?

That's me out too! Both my parents died because their hearts stopped.

It won't be long before the insurers require a DNA analysis for defective genes.

I used to be with direct line and they never enquired as to my parents health (not even in polite concern). I simply filled in the online form handed over by debit card details ad hey presto insured..... How did they find out about your parents heart conditions anyway? There's also the relevent point that having parents with heart disease may increase your risk but then so would eating fast food, smoking and drinking lots of booze. Did they ask you how much you smoked drank etc? All sounds a bit dodgy to me

That's too bad, camper. I was refused insurance recently because I used to hang out with the wrong crowd. I feel like such a fool now for ticking the "do you hang out with the wrong crowd" box.

Don't stress about it you'll only make your condition worse. Think of them as samaritans as now you can't work there'll be less stress on yer ticker so you should live for at least another 2 years imo, that is of course if you avoid day time tv that will raise your blood pressure. Good luck and can I have your car?

That's insurance comps for you, they take on the risk but don't want any risks, they didn't even ask you for a medical.

Sorry to hear that.

My advice would be to nip down to the doctors for a check-up before worrying about your car insurance.

Both my parents are still alive, but I know that one day and probably very soon after they've died their heart will have stopped beating.
How on earth will I get life or car insurance when I declare that?

jeez, talk about going over the top - it was one ins co, there are millions... so they said they wouldn't insure you - big deal, get over it - less of the hand-wringing, hit the yellow pages, get a quote and get on with it.

I was told by one ins co that despite the fact I was paying them in excess of £100 per month, they wouldn't continue insuring me because my car was modified. I didn't start bleating on how it would be the end of me, I'd have to live on the dole etc - I just turned the page, got another insco on the phone and got it sorted.

I can appreciate sarcasm, wit and tongue-in-cheek'ity but the excerpt of the post that I quoted had none of that.

errr but surely the point is that he now has to answer YES to the question "have you ever been refused insurance?"

The person who summarised insurance cos are in the risk business, but don't want to bear any risk is more or less right. On the other hand remember the Simpsons episode where Ned Flanders house burned down and didn't have insurance because he considered it a form of gambling.

In answer to Streaky there are families where genetically they suffer heart disease which shortens life span. So maybe you are right.

If you are in a Union, they usually send you a load of leaflets with their monthly newsletter. One of these is bound to be with Frizzel (Liverpool Victoria) which does a cracking deal for people who have a habit of writting off cars.

Because in family genetics - does not mean you will have heart failure necessarily.

Lot of variables and means to take care of this if predisposition is found to be present. We all have this predisposition to illnesses and defects in any case. Is a human condition.

Go get a medical - you do not necessarily need a genetic screening. But you need certificate which give you clean bill of health and then see if you can get any redrss from the idiot clerk for inconvenience caused by virtue of having to explain they refuse you car insurance on this basis.

Would not insure with this company myself.. for anything.
