Posted for reasons of education, primarily for those people (theyre still out there!) who believe a seat belt to be unecessary.
They are of course wrong, and badly so.

Keep it shiney side up folks.

About 10 years ago I had an argument with a transit van. Had I not been wearing my sealt belt I'd have almost certainly become a statistic. There should be more adverts showing the effect of not wearing a seatbelt as opposed to the speed kills bullshit

I regularly drive around London - particularly the North Circular and West London routes as we do deliveries.

I am horrified by the number of drivers / passengers without seatbelts. Most white vans appear to have some blanket exemption. As do a lot of large women.

In a recent survey in slow moving traffic in Earls Court, we couldn't find *anyone* not breaking at least one traffic law.

What the hell was that bus doing on a Rally Stage?

Or perhaps

What the hell was that Rally car doing racing around on public roads?

That was in Hungary, according to the clip info it was a practice stage for the Mikulas cup rally (Mikulas is 6th December where all the children get presents from St. Nick).

You think its bad in the UK? In Hungary somewhere between 40 and 50% of car/van occupants do not wear seatbelts. Add that to much poorer driving discipline and you can see why Hungary has a road safety record many magnitudes worse than the UK.

It is the law to wear them, however, there are even less trafpol here than in the UK so nobody is caught and fined for anything.

Here's another clip of what can happen to you if you don't wear your seat belt. This is quite shocking!

Ive seen that one before. The guy is/was plainly an idiot of a 1st order of magnitude.

Maybe our unworthy scammer friends should use these kinds of videos instead of "speed speed and more speed"....? Just a thought....

I've always thought that the penalty for parents/adults not securing children in a car should be a mandatory manslaughter charge. It never ceases to amaze me the amount fo cars I see on the school run, where little Johnny is jumping around on the back seat.

I got hit head on by a guy in a Sierra at about 40mph about 10 years ago ..... I was wearing a seat belt but he wasn't.

The cars were a mess, I got bad whiplash but he hit the A post and lost an eye and half the use of an arm ..... oh, and he was knocked out.

I will never drive without a belt - I can still remember seeing him hit the pillar as his car embedded itself into me......

The accident was totally his fault; he lost control coming towards me when I was stationary. I had nowhere to go ..... I just watched him in that kind of slow motion way when you know you can do nothing about it !

Absolutely, and something I would always take action upon.

Even when I get in my car to get a CD out of the player or move it a little bit on the drive, seatbelt goes on.

It's so automatic now.

Anyone who doesn't belt up is just waiting for the unfortunate inveitable.
