Looks as though this is to be forced upon our worthy leaders by the EU.

Manufacturers have just been told by the EU that all new vehicles must have a satellite device that alerts the emergency services in the event of a crash....

You need to write to your MP. Give them greif. It is not as hard as you think.

draft your complaint, add a little evidence , remove all the swear words and replace with " I am most disgusted" "very annoyed" spell check it (well I have to!)

then go to www.faxyourmp.com/index.php3
look up your mp and wizz it off...

for free... no paper,, stamp, you dont even need to drive to the post box

It won't happen. Manufacturers will refuse to install these devices on new cars, cos they know no one will buy a new car with a black box fitted.
That hasn't stopped HMG giving ever increasing amounts of our cash to US computer forms and Big Four consultancies for computer systems that don't work, and sinking ever increasing sums from our pockets in military technology from our European 'partners' that is inferior to the US products and vastly more expensive. Oh, and of course, there was Rover ... - Streaky

I've used that on several occasions to contact my MP. It works very well. The last time I used it, I had an email reply within 40 minutes telling me that the MP was investigating. 2 weeks later I had a letter from him with a copy of correspondence he had from the DoT.

You can find out quite a lot about your MP there too. Voting record etc. It's very handy when it comes to knowing how to pitch your question.

Think again! The EU is alive and kicking ... and blythely ignoring the expressions of the French and Dutch voters.

Over 460 fresh EU directives, regulations and decisions have been passed by the European Commission since Britain assumed the presidency of the EU on 1 July 2005.

And with ruling C-176/03 of 13 September 2005 the European Court in Luxembourg implemented a very important part of the draft and rejected EU Constitution by allowing the European Commission to have a say on questions covered by national criminal laws.

I will NEVER, EVER subscribe to this...would close my business and emigrate first!

I hate this F*KING government...lies and very sinister erosion of basic freedom of choice. Hope to God we get a change of scene after the next election.

Heard they were considering fitting something similar to the Aston DB9...and that the manufacturer WOULD release data to Police if demanded in the event of an accident...not sure if this ever happened, but Aston...when I read this you immediately lost a potential serious customer (had an appetite for a Vanquish...)

Very simple message to performance car manufacturers - DON'T GO THERE!

UK...land of the SCAMS and incompetent tw*ts in Transport Policy!

Here's a thought....

Pensioner stands by road in advance of mobile speed trap with a sign to warn drivers. Drivers slow down. Pensioner gets prosecuted for obstructing a police officer due to preventing an offence that would otherwise have been committed.

Driver of black box equipped car floors it with the intention of driving above the posted limit. Black box kicks in and prevents this from occuring. All this takes place just before a mobile speed trap, thus also preventing an offence which would otherwise have been committed.

Legally speaking, what's the difference?

Simple! You can't wring money from a black box.

Well, of course there are ways that the Treasury would get the money ... just increase the tax on car sales to achieve an average of some £20 per car and they're there. Call it a "safety tax". And why stop at £20/car? Just rip more from the motorist's pocket.

But then, what about the Scameras? They'd be out of work. Never mind them, government isn't about macro-economics. The additional income will pay their dole money anyway.

Streaky

PS - I'd be happy to see the scameras on the dole. And the present pathetic lot that passes for Parliament. And those Whitehall mandarins who have adbicated their responsibility to be independent of government. And BLiar's cronies in the Lords. And the politicos infesting the upper levels of the police. And people who stop at the top of the steps from the Tube to dial in a new track on their iPod or read a text message. And ...

You can guarentee they net effect on income will be to increase it.

Firstly, you have to install the box. It wouldn't be built to open standards and who do you think will own the IP for licensing. Even if it is that's what coporation tax is for.

Then you have the mapping data which needs to be updated. There are several mapping companies but only one serious choice for a job like this - owned by the crown. Another source of revenue.

Then you have to have an infrastructure to support the upgrade of vehicles with all this licensed data.

The motorist would pay and pay big time for it. Many devices would fail - how would you know (anyone got trackstar?). Whole new chapter of law enforcement

now there is an idea, change speed limits every other year so you have to pay an upgrade fee or drive around at 19mph just incase it changed to 20mph limit !!!
and if you date drive above the limit they fine you based on your own carputer/gps !!!

What a stupid idea. But then I didn't really need to say that, did I?

It looks like one of those ideas that the government put out so that when they implement something not quite as bad, we think that we've got away lightly.

yep its called a flyer info put out ellicit a reaction which in turn allows them guage opinion, thing here is that their desperate to do something and most likely have decided and its likely to enrage us so much more they are trying to soften us up to the idea first

Hey! I finally figured out the speeding debate! It's not about the theory that speed kills, no, that can be proven or disproven until the end of time for all it matters. What it actually is is making the road safer by pinging as many drivers of their licenses as possible and thus meaning there are less physical objects on our roads to hit! It's genius I tell you! Note however that in Victoria you can get your license back after having lost it a couple of times.

If all cars were clamped to the speed limit, no-one would buy performance cars, that alone would wreck the ecconomy and cost loads of jobs.

Always the same with this lot, they hate people being able to think for themselves, always dreaming up new ways they can control and dictate our lives.

I think it's only a matter of time before they want webcams installing in everyone's homes to spy on us further.
