Just come up the M1 from East Midlands Airport.

There appears to be an unmarked plod in an old black Honda Accord prowling around junctions 25 and 26.

He pulled a Lexus.

Accord had alternate flashing red tail lights and blue strobes in the grille and on the dash.

Does anyone know if he's real?

His pulling technique was more than a little dodgy. Behind the Lexus, he was very close and they both cut across from lane 2 or 3 to get to the hard shoulder. As he passed, the combination of his flashing back lights, stop lights and left indicator, right up the chuff of the Lexus, had us all momentarily confused.

Shortly before this, I passed him parked up on the hard shoulder with those back lights flashing, and he appeared to be looking at a map.

Anybody know which force polices that neck of the woods? He was just on the Leicestershire side of the Nottinghamshire border.

That car must be used by various forces or something, I have seen him flashing passed me at a good rate of knots twice on the m1 between junctions 4 and 14 in the last few months.

The car certainly was not my idea of an unmarked car...

Maybe as a good citizen it would be worth you phoning your local plod and letting them know. I am sure they will get the information to the right force.

Yup, i did too.

There was something not right about his driving style when I have seen him.

He looked more like someone trying to go as fast as possible rather than actually trying to make safe, well trained, progress if you get my meaning.

Going back a few years, there was an un-marked red 1984 'A' registration Citroen BX on patrol, it was at least ten or twelve years old at the time. As stealth as it gets.

Was it blancoed? And isn't it more usual to find the khaki in the ignition? - Streaky

It can be, the same police force (West Mercia i think it's officially know as, anyway the Staffordshire area ones) cover the M6 from Knutsford Services in mid-Cheshire. I think it's know unknown for police forces to break the motorways up into more sensible (for them) chunks that ignore county boundaries.

Bit off plot there chassis 33.

West Mercia covers local authority areas Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Worcestershire. I would say Knutsford is Cheshire area.

Motorways are indeed subject to a bit of interpretation, and of course in the West Midlands even more so with Central Motorway Patrol Group.
