Spotted him myself this morning on A610 near M1 junction - didn't seem to match the 'pattern' of a Derbyshire unmarked and his stop positioning wasn't great. Index was X578 CLE if anyone is able to do a PNC to settle this once and for all!

I meant to say earlier that when I came down the M1 on the 9th October, I saw him in the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire area.

The car I saw was an Accord Type R. When I saw him he was parked at an angle behind the car he had stopped. I have noticed a lot of police cars now appear to be stopping in this position when they are pulling people.

It's in case a dozing driver wanders onto the hard shoulder and rear-ends the plod car...

It's shunted off the road or to one side instead of forwards and into the stopped / broken-down vehicle.

Similar: when you're aiming to turn right, don't have the wheels turned until you proceed (then if you get rear ended you don't steam into oncoming traffic)

Has anyone performed a PNC check on the reg? I'm interested to know if this is a fake or a genuine unmarked car. I have heard of plod in Wiltshire using a Type-R...

Wiltshire's car is a bright red Type R and is very obvious (bearing in mind it is an undercover car)

Can't do a PNC but from the RAC data base + DVLA website X578 CLE is a Black Honda Accord Type R 2157cc. First registered 16/10/2000 with a change of registered keeper 1/11/01. Oh yeah and it's taxed until 31/3/06.

Could be the real thing. Type R is probably quick enough to be a traffic car and whilst 5 years is an old car I don't think it is too old for a police car? There is a change of keeper though - I don't think the police are into buying second hand motors (not with all that lovely hard working tax payers money to chuck about) however I suppose it could have been moved from one force to another. Does anyone have a view on this?

Pretty sure I read a while back on here that police use confiscated goods now, from drug dealers and what not.

Wasn't a certain force using an E39 M5 with the reg number M5 FUN?

Probably was a dealers car that they just had off him and bunged some lights in for Trafpol use. Would be a waste of a Type R to auction it maybe!?

Hmmmm

Start of the year saw a silver one by Leamington just off the M40...not obvious until you saw the blue lights in the grille and the black epaulettes on the driver's shoulders!

I know a number of people who wouldn't pull over and stop for an old car like that, not with dodgy looking temporary strobes etc. Too risky. I think I'd be inclined to put in a 999 call and carry on driving.

I took my sister back to uni a few weeks ago and saw an impreza pass me at around 90 with an Octavia RS right behind it. A few seconds the later blue lights appeared in the rear window of the Octavia and the front lights flashing. Very worrying as this car looks completely standard in Black. Pretty harsh for the Subaru driver as the Skoda was almost egging him on. Back to stories years ago of Rover 820 Vitesses tailgating cars then waiting till the speed rises above 70 before pulling them over.

Still, all this is obviously in the name of safety!

There's an unmarked silver Octavia in Birmingham, spotted with a disabled car when I was trying to escape from that fine city.

Also spotted an unmarked bike last week in rural North Wales, having just pulled a couple of bikers. The police rider had no identifying marks and the only ID on the bike were a couple of blue strobes.

Don't suppose he'd been pushing the other riders? Nah, perish the thought......

Octavias seem to be in favour - I was behind one on the M25 between the M4 and M40 the other week when everything suddenly went all blue and flashing and the car in front got a nasty surprise. He wasn't speeding or doing anything obviously dubious either, so presumably that's an ANPR/PNC inspired pull?
