today i was driving down chigwell rise. in the pouring rain. cars infront of me were going above 40 on a 30 and i was lagging behind. as i took a left banking corner to my shock i see a talivan parked on the opposite side of the road with its back window pointing towards me. i was momentarily stunned and do not realise how fast i was going. the cars in front were not braking and i was in a long line of cars. do talivans operate in heavy rain? what side do talivans operate towards? does the back window take fotos of oncoming cars? im very annoyed by these vans. arent they only ment to operate on roads with an accident record? if i do recieve a letter of prosecution is there anything i can say ? as im 19 and have 6 months till my probation is over , im getting quite nervous getting points. i have none presently.esp being a medical student i need my car to get to my hospital. any help wil be greatly appreciated

All I know is that talivans can catch you in either direction, either towards or away from the camera.

Not sure if they should be operating in heavy rain, as this can affect a laser beam.

I would wait for 15 days and see if anything nasty appears in your letterbox. After this time you should be in the clear if you are the registered keeper.

The back window won’t take a photo, but the camera behind it might

TBH I don’t know how they capture an offender’s details during hours of darkness; perhaps they pull them over, or rely on ANPR?

Extract from ACPO code of practice regarding laser speed meters:

Heavy rain, spray or mist may reduce the range of the laser but will not effect the speed measurement
