Just a quick question.... trundling down the M4 through the Thames Valley. I was positive that I saw a fully marked up Omega Patrol car with one of those TomTom SatNav things stuck to the windscreen....

Are the Thames Valley Police using satnav now?

Would have thought it pretty useless as the speeds they might be travelling at would render it behind all of the time.

Ambulances have been fitted with sat nav for years. Maybe TVP are catching up?

Carnt see any reason why they should not have them, or why they cannot have them, speed doesnt make a differnce to my satnav (Not tomtom though), not for want of trying though.

My TomTom coped perfectly well with 130mph in Germany.

We use TomTom's in Surrey, they keep up fine, however I still prefer using the good old A-Z!

Our's too!

I think it has some predictive tools within the software. When we entered tunnels it would carry on for a second or too, then announce it didn't know where we were... but would track us for a minute or too at our last speed

Dont have a problem with TVP using TomTom and it has got to be cheaper than having it standard fit to the car in the first place (assuming it was provided by TVP and not a personal one).

Total speed isnt too much of an issue, what I mean is that if you have to do a series of complex turns (one roundabout followed by a left turn) it will speak out the directions, but the screen can take a second or two to catch up. Normally not a problem but if there are several options you can look at the screen to double check which is correct - if it hasnt updated yet then it might be a little hard.....

Also would have thought that having that bloody woman talking to you while you shout out the "blow by blow" details of a police pursuit might be a little hard.... maybe a little distracting?

Mind you, at least you can load up the camera database and not get caught by them while on the way back to the station....
