Just keep a set of original (legal) plates in your boot and if a plob stops you say you have been ADVISED that they need to be changed earlier and that you just bought them and need to put them on but dont want to do it on the road side!
Also say you have thrown the recipt away and the plod just told you off the day before!
Easy!
Remember us Traf Pols are here to, thanks for the heads up re a new excuse !!!
It's not what you know, but what you can prove.

I think most sensible Bib will ignore a spaced plate as long as it's not too silly - Did you catch that Lambo
Like to put myself in that sensible Bib category, don't touch number plates really unless they are really taking the mick, much bigger fish out there to fry……
There are a few Bib that like to seize the number plate, however not sure what power they have to do this, some have quoted section 19 PACE but in my understanding that covers items taken from a property not a vehicle.
Yep, I agree, but a couple of points to those who might want to know....
When you have a cherished plate, you only, technically, 'hire' it for life from DVLA. If it is misrepresented and this is reported back to DVLA, they can simply pull the plate back, irrespective of how much it cost you, and re-issue a bog standard AB55ABC (or whatever matches the age of your car...) with no financial recompense.... This would, however, only happen after the warning/VDRS/police Report/Prosecution timeline.
Also, PACE... That thing which applies to south of Hadrians Wall only. In Scotland, plates can (and do) get seized at the roadside as 'best evidence' and leave the owner to find an alternate means of transporting their pride and joy home.
However... Would stress that, yes, there are bigger fish to fry rather than mis-spaced plates but, if the attitude test is failed, then.....
Am I alone in finding the money-grabbing hypocracy of the DVLA amazing.
First, they sell you, for a lot of cash, a 'cherished' plate which can, if spaced in a certain way, make up your name or some other word. Then, when you actually do make it up in the manner for which you bought it, you are persecuted for so doing and threatened with removal of the plate with no re-imbursement from the DVLA.
If they don't want the plates made up to form names, then they shouldn't sell them in the first place.
Maybe that's the reason the BiB, in general, are not too bothered about it all, except in certain circumstances where the type faces or spacing is completely taking the p**s.

just a thought if the dvla chargr more money because they knowimgly realise it can spell a name and they infact require more money, some one with a grudge should sue em for conspiracy or incitement because its clear cut they are profiteering from the extra money they are charging, one day i guess some one will, the same as one day some one will rip a camera out of those feking camera vans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you can't actually spell something near to your name, or initials, without distorting the characters, or inserting dodgy numberplate bolts...then you are a complete loser/waster/faux poser/idiot/tw@t/w@nker,etc. (But that's what my mum said to say..)
Just my 2 cents. And yes I have a plate that starts with V8...

What about my plate? (In profile)
In my view unless you are really taking the piss or get pulled for other reasons, I can't see you having a problem.

Its not just DVLA sales. Any plate, on any UK registered vehicle (bike/car/truck/bus) from wherever, sold by whoever, to whoever, still belongs to DVLA and subject to the big 'ook back if DVLA wants to....

That's cool! No problems with that.
It's just the ones that attempt to truncate a "7" to make a "T" or a "1", or the guy that put a yellow plate stud into a "1" to make an "i" that I have a problem with.
No. On two counts.
UK VRMs require numbers as well as letters.
I'm guessing your main point though is about the VOLVO tag. That too is non compliant.
See The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) (Amendment) Regulations 2009.
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2009/811/regula...
These amended Regulation 16 of The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001.
Country flags + identifiers are the only 'devices' which may be lawfully added to a registration plate.
Note that outside of the UK your vehicle must display the recognised international country identifier (i.e. GB).
So if your (dual purpose) plate isn't the EU flag/GB type you'll have to display a separate GB sticker.

Thankyou for the concise clear answer, Pity i like banner plates but as we're no longer in the EU it seems pointles having a banner. and id rather not go all patriotic.UK VRMs require numbers as well as letters.
