From my experience - (101.58 in a 70)= 6 points and 340 quid fine, previous clean licence apart from points which didn't count from 5 years prior - suggest you DON'T plead guilty by letter, turn up, face the music with your most convincing saddest guilty face on, with a letter from your employer (even if you write it yourself and get them to sign it) in hand and hope for a good result.
Above all, take someone with you and when they ask you "how did you get here today? ", don't for Gods sake tell them you drove there, cos they will most surely ban you just to give you the inconvenience of getting back home!!
Ps. if you DO have any previous points that don't count, send your licence up for their removal - thye DO look at your current licence, if it has previous it may affect outcome.
Best of luck, worked for me
Stu

Whatever you do, please, please please do NOT plead guilty! Plead not guilty and let the process takes its course - they can and do cock up paperwork, details, statements etc, especially if its a plod with a laser, rather than a fixed camera.

As others have said, get over to pepipoo and search throught the forums - theres is loads of useful stuff there and plenty of people willing to help. I did and it saived me points/fine/ban etc.., just takes a bit of guts to do it

Just for the record, I got off a 107 charge on the A6(M) because of a procedural cock-up, so it is worht fighting!

That's plan "A" Stu. Believe me I hate speed cameras and as noted above, the A90 is a typical example of the level of farce its become but if I was caught by a policecar would it have made any difference? You speed "excessively" then IMHO you have to accept that if you get caught you get caught. Trying to fight these kind of things (if it was 75 in a 70 then absolutely, give it a go) my experience is that you have a chance of it going okay and a chance of it going catestrophically wrong too! I've had a good look at the websites and they seem to have good cases, where I have a simple open and shut case.

Believe me, I'm no submissive (down Paul), but I'm also big and ugly enough to know when I'm bang to rights.

Will let you all know what the lawyer says...

Mine was open and shut as well, but they failed in a big way on procedures, meaning they had no admissable evidence against me! You can always change your plea before the trial as well. Speeding IS NOT A CRIME! Please don't just bow down and accept their bullshit.

'K - will raise it as an option when I meet with my lawyer. Thanks for the advice.

Just in from my lawyer:

"With regard to the speeding offence you have a duty to divulge the details of the driver in terms of section 172 of the Road traffic Act 1988 and that is what the form will say. Therefore you should sign the form and return it as soon as possible.

Any speed over 100mph may end up in a charge of section 2 (dangerous driving). If convicted of section 2 you may face a minimum of a one year ban and you have to resit an extended test. Even if charged with just speeding still run risk of disqualification (speeding = 3 to 6 points or disqualification)

It is up to the police to decide what to charge you with in the first instance although even if you are reported for speeding the Procurator Fiscal can change that to a section 2"

I've read over the form and it does say that me admitting to driving the car is not an infringement of my civil rights so it's not an admission of guilt.

So, will send in the form and see what they say. Can't put up a fight till I know what they're going to charge me with!

Pay someone to kick your face in and get some pics taken. Swear blind you were doing 60 and the cop stopped you and demaded money then smacked you for giving lip. See if you can get something on the guy, or set him up with a hooker. Anything to discredit him and get the case thrown out. If we all operated like this, the anti speed silliness would stop and they would go pick on old ladies for not putting their teeth in. Hope you win good luck.

Just check with the peeps on pepipoo before you do anything - I saw a lawyer an hour before my trial, and he advised me to plead guilty - they don't always know what they're talking about!

(but then, neither do I )
