Maybe one for Paul here...

Looking at the Devon/Cornwall Scamera partnership site
www.dcsafetycameras.org/

"On Devon and Cornwall's roads in 2001, 86 people were killed and over 600 were seriously injured. Speed was by far the biggest contributory factor in these collisions. "

Really? Even if you believe the 1/3rd of all accidents caused by speed nonsense then its stretching the point to say it was by far the biggest contributory factor?

Dont be so daft. Scamera Partnerships are above the law. They can say and do what they want. To even think that someone might "correct" them on what they can say is probably a jail sentance! Good god man what were you thinking!

this should be taken in good humor by the way

I like this page

www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/dcsc/factfigs/facts.htm

"Over half of car drivers killed die in accidents on country roads."

So lets stick scams on busy dual carriageways instead where we can make some serious dosh.

"Two-thirds of all crashes in which people are killed or injured happen on roads with a speed limit of 30mph or less. At 35mph a driver is twice as likely to kill someone as they are at 30mph."

So half are killed on country roads of which a fair percentage are 30 limit.

This does kind of make sense.

Normally in towns it's the pedestrians who are killed in collisions. When an accident happens in a rural area, it's less likely to involve pedestrians, so it's drivers who suffer

There's just been an advert on local radion saying something along the lines of "more people die in their cars on country roads. Slow down." WTF?

They haven't actually said excess speed was a factor tho, although that is what they're infering. The average Joe will think they're talking about speeding when he reads it. A clever little phrase by the scam ppl.

The statement that speed is a factor in most accidents means absolutely nothing and is completely true and obvious.

I think there is more evidence to support this advertisement: (SafeSpeed can use it if they want )

'70% of all deaths could have been avoided if the government were not so obsessed with speed cameras'

In stead of opting to the totally unproven system of using speed cameras to reduce deaths which has since failed, they could have used tried and tested methods of making the roads themselves safer and embarked on a policy of increased driver awareness and raod sense, and taught good pedestrian skills in primary and secondary schools.

How much was each death worth in terms of camera revenue?

The UK "no shit, sherlock" award for 2005 has to go to Cumbria scammers with this beauty:

"In all areas, the majority of fatal and serious injury accidents occurred while vehicles were driving straight ahead or going into left or right hand bends"

That's b@ll@cks. My only serious accident was when reversing, in a straight line.

Mind you it was at speed out of a jewellers window in SW10, but thats another story.

Not at all. We simply break down the accidents to see which ones were caused alien abductions (none), government conspiracies (usually no more than a couple) and what's left must be caused by speeding vehicles. Strangely enough, speed aways turns out to be the biggest contributory factor.

Given that a stationary vehicle cannot hit anything, you can argue speed is a factor in all accidents.

Surely the accident occured when you lost control of the vehicle and collided with the jeweller's window in the first place? Or am I missing something here? - Streaky

To be honest, it wasn't even my fault. I was blinded by the flashing blue lights in my mirror.
