Female officer shot dead in city
One female police officer has been shot dead and another female officer badly injured as they responded to reports of an armed robbery in Bradford.
West Yorkshire Police say the officers were called to investigate reports of a robbery at 1525 GMT in Morley Street.
The spokeswoman said: "A number of roads in the Bradford city centre area have been closed."
Both of the officers were taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary.
Tom McGhie, chairman of West Yorkshire Police Federation, confirmed two officers had been shot.
He said: "Two officers have been shot while responding to an armed robbery that was on-going in Bradford this afternoon."

Just caught this in the ITN news, terrible, I understand that the other WPC is in a critical condition. I cant believe what the news anchorman said at the end of the piece "If you have any photos or video of the incident from your mobile phone, then please send it to us here at the ITN newsdesk". Yeah, send it to ITN rather than the Police to help them in their search to catch the killer, an ITN scoop is much more important. The media get worse dont they?

A shooting's bad enough but shooting a wpc! Scumbag needs stoning to death by her family and colleagues. Then when he's dead we can stone him some more, assuming it was a bloke of course.

Ok...
I will probably get flamed for this....I don't see a difference in shooting a female cop or a male cop.
Isn't that what sexual equality is all about?
Absolutely disgusted by this. Were these officers Trojan equivalent or regular unarmed officers? If so, you have got to question exactly how they got into a position to be shot at in the 1st place especially if it the call had come out as armed robbery.
I hope this puts into perspective exactly what the Police are putting on the line every time they go to work.

Sky were saying the same, but as they were saying it I thought they were going to say "send them to the police"
I suppose they needed something more than a picture of a Bradford street to show. Sad gits.

Why were unarmed officers put in the position of attending this hold up alarm ???? I've been to hundreds in the last 17 years and I haven't got a gun - nor will the government or my senior officers give us the right to protect ourselves.
There are not enough armed officers to even go to everything mentioning a gun - let alone the other calls - like this - where guns or knifes then appear. The armed officers are rushed off their feet. I listened to a friend of mine get shot at over the radio years ago and it was horrible ..... hearing the screaming for help was distinctly unpleasant. I for one would like the opportunity to at least have the possibility of being able to defend myself, should I be unlucky enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
17 years ago when I joined the police armed offences were quite rare ..... now there are loads every day but all I have is a tin of CS and an ASP as opposed to a lump of wood ..... wow, haven't things come on!

The two WPC's sounded like probationers.
Didn't realise it was a central station alarm TBH so yes, I can see why unarmed officers would attend. It's just damn unlucky they get one where the robbers are armed and b) willing to use them.
Most officers don't want guns (or at least that used to be the case). Has that changed drastically? A firearms officer managed to literally shoot himself in the foot accidentally in a Police canteen I was in at the time and he was trained! God knows what how many would be injured or killed if every officer had them.
A friend of mine is in SO19 and he isn't rushed off of his feet most the time. Quite the opposite in fact.

I don't know where your friend works in SO19 but the officers I see literally go from call to call ...... I see it and hear it on the radio. If that is not busy then I wouldn't like to see them when they are having a bad day.
Apparently, the two probationers (~2 years service) responded to a "Personal Attack Alarm" triggered by one of the staff in the travel agency. They appear to have arrived as the gang were exiting the shop. The surviving officer's wounds are said not to be life-threating. I am sure our thoughts go out to the families of both officers and to their colleagues, not just in Bradford but around the country - Streaky
Its shit is this to honest...three men against two WPC and their answer is to start shooting...there was no need at all.
I remember 10 years ago when I was still serving villans wouldn't even fight against a WPC, PCs yeah but not the women. I remember my wife getting punch (she's still a WPC) when locking someone up and the lad appologised as he didn't realise it was a WPC who had hold of him. I guess that wouldn't happen any more.
The whole thing sucks, my thoughts are with her family and friends..

A sad inditement of how low society has become.
My thoughts are with the poor girls families.
What is the incentive these days though to 'throw down your gun' - shoot your way out and the worst that will happen is a short (comparitively) time locked up with every do-gooder in the country supporting you.
I'm very much afraid that the do-gooding, lilly-livered, liberals in this country have had things their own way for too long and it's about time the pendulum swung the other way.
We've had 40+ years of the 'protect the culprit' mentality and things seem to be getting worse not better - about time we got back to the protect the innocent culture.
What better place to start than the re-introduction of the death penalty.

This is very sad indeed. Like the other BiB I've responded to any number of PA alarms. Usually they are for shoplifters, drunks, general yobbery etc.... You never really expect to see armed men exit the premises. I don't think all Police should be armed, but I think there need to be more ARVs. That said, the number of ARVs is steadily on the up and it is incidents like this that make the service give serious thought in this area.
I certainly agree that the death penalty should be a sentencing option for murder and this situation more than merits it.

They do have busy periods (generally the old l/t period. He works out of Leman St on a core Trojan team. I'm only relaying what he has told me. He's been on the team for the last 5 years. Prior to that he was at GN and maintains that it's alot busier on division. Going a bit off topic I fear, but just wanted to let you know that my assertion wasn't based on what a bloke down the pub told me.
Back on topic, if it was a personal attack alarm, do we know if it was an alarm company install or one installed by the station? If it was a station based kit then there would have been remarks on the cad detailing the specific threat and reason for install? I don't think 2 probationers in an IRV (male or female) is a good thing and I'm wondering if a more experienced officer had been posted with 1 probationer would the outcome have been any different......

Life in prison is more than satisfactory, and greater punishment.
Afterall, how many people would go for the suicide option if they knew life meant life?
The Death penalty isnt good for innocent people, because a nice percentage of people convicted are innocent anyway, and once that small innocent percentage are executed theres no taking the decision back.
