Headlight Dipping
Discussion
What is it with the recent and increasing trend for people not to dip their headlights until they see you dip yours, and for them to assume that if they don't actually see you dip yours, that you haven't, so not to dip theirs? Look, guys, I saw you coming ages ago and dipped my lights before you came round the corner, so stop bloody dazzling me, OK?
HC Rule 94: You MUST NOT
* use any lights in a way which would dazzle or cause discomfort to other road users
And no, my headlights do not need adjusting.

I have noticed that drivers in Cumbria (specifically drivers of real, proper agricultural 4x4s) do not dip their lights for anyone or anything.
There again, the same people also do not slow down or move over to their side of the road or give way at passing places for anyone or anything. It must be a cultural thing of assuming everyone else is a tourist and therefore must be despised.

The front fog light problem seems to be getting worse all the time, often people with side lights and fog lights Surely they must notice people dazzling them with fog lights, so why don't they recognise this and turn theirs off
I can't turn the fog lights on unless main beams are on full beams, not even if they're only dipped!

That would involve reading the manual. Since most people don't even know how to store a radio station on their radio, I somehow doubt people even grasp the concept of suspension and the effect weight has on it
i might be being a bit pedantic, but for ages i've thought there should be some kind of test when you buy a new car, to prove you know what knob does what, and what that 'funny' light on the dash is for.
the ammount of times i heard people say things like "is that what that light is for" or "i've no idea where the switch is for it".
i'm not saying people should know details of how the engine works, but they should know what all the controls do, and what effect they have on the car.

A) Whats the difference?
B) Labelled as foggies in the manual.
on a similar note, most modern cars come with a little knob so you can adjust your headlights down a bit when carrying a load.....why is it no one uses them!
It's because the little knob has four or five numbered settings that cover various combinations of loading. You have to get the manual out to find out what they mean. If someone could think of some icons that instantly convey to the driver when you should use each setting, it would make life much easier.

The difference is its illegal to drive with fog lights on except when there's dense fog (well that's what Plod told me when he stopped me a few years ago, despite the numpty not realising they were driving lamps and not accepting my assurance as such).

...I'm sure most of this is because manufacturers insist on labelling controls with stupid pictures that convey no meaning, as opposed to clear, unambiguous words. Especially with lights - you get lots of different switches with slightly different pictures of a light on them, which means that the most effective way of working out which lights they control is to switch them all on in turn and then walk round the car to see what's lit up. "Sidelights", "Headlights", "Front foglights", "Rear foglights" etc. would save all the confusion and hassle.
