Bloke complains about nearly getting clipped when walking on the pavement by a cyclo-warrior.

Goes along to complain at Harrogate plod shop.

Front desk civvy tells him to go forth and get a life.

Bloke puts in FoI request to NYP re number of fixed penalties issued to cyclists in Harrogate.

Answer comes back :none. We prefer a word in shell-likes as more effective.

Bloke points out much evidence of missed opportunities for word in shell-like implementation.

Cardboard imitation plod responds we got better things to do, repeats go get a life advice.

J Vine invites comments from another party on air who admits to cycling on pavement, through red lights, wrong way up one way streets, but its OK as long as you are considerate. ??!!??

JVine mailbox about to be snowed under methinks.

Come on then DVD you and bro out of retirement it is!

Stop! or I'll say stop again! (sorry only in jest tha knows)

I agree with him/her. In the same way that I agree that 100mph on a M-way is OK as long you're considerate, safe, use COAST etc etc.

theres some merit in that view leosayer but its imcopatible with the view that when it goes wrong its got to be the motorists fault.

And a friend of mines son cycling on the pavement in Tokyo ( Where its legal there ) knocked down an old lady who stepped suddenly out of a doorway. The hospital treatment cost him £ 10K in 1985 !!!!!

I heard parts of the show, the bloke complaining sounded like a right whinger obsessed with his cause.

I think a telling off to a pavement cyclist is sensible, FPN's aren't needed unless the cyclist is a complete idiot.

As I've said many times, I like cyclist (I am one) to abide by the same laws as motorists, display courtesy at all times and hope to be treated in return with respect.
Now, the cafe where I go has a pavement outside that leads about 10m from road to door of cafe (and is apparently decared a bridleway under some bylaw) and a footbridge opposite with a very visible 'No Cycling' sign above it.
A short while ago I discussed this with a beat bobby when he suggested we push our bikes (there was no-one else around and even if there were, I usually wait or 'track stand' until they've passed.
Last week a cycle bobby rode past the window off across the road, cutting it a bit fine with some approaching car, then off across the footbridge where he took a little time to appreciate the ducks

Problem is Fif your don't spot riding on pavement infringements when you have an Eascort/Vaux/Pug etc screwed to yer R'se...

When I pounded the pavements (hangs head in shame) I ignored kiddywinks as it was safer for them than doing it on the road but adults yes. But there again latest burb from HMG no body gets killed or seriously injured as they are doing under 30 mph.

But again noticeable that the blue rinse brigade on their GT Zimmerframes have nearly had me down a couple of times as they whizz about on their morning shopping runs.

.....and don't forget, no one is perfect but coming from Yorkshire is as near as it gets......

dvd

PS. For your file No 2 RV Lighting Amendment out and in force 12.12. MOT examiner exempt whilst testing.

Funnily enough they covered that yesterday, apparently riding a pushbike not an offence under 16.

Know exactly what you mean. T'other week had to hop lively as young filly in a motorised chair was window shopping (literally) at warp 9. Seemed very indignant when issued with a right royal bollocking.

There will always be one who has to complain, and one who has to cycle into people, and a police officer who is perhaps a little less than helpful one day.

World still spinning though, and their dreary complain filled life still goes on day by day. Why do these people have nothing better to do with their time?

So, the 210 pedestrian casualties resulting from accidents with cyclists (2004) don't matter?

Fair enough. Standard cyclist OP.

Methinks you'll find no age allowances for pavement cycling, only for FPNs to under-16s.

Well I've actually had a £40 fixed penalty for cycling on a pavement, I wasn't even "cycling" in the true sense as I had got off the seat had both legs on the same side although I was stood on a pedal and was actually coasting towards a ferry ticket office across about 20' of pavement at 7 o'clock in the morning. Plod were hiden the other side of office and nicking everyone as most people did the same thing. (Gosport ferry for any locals)
