Tell me about the GPS type of camera detection systems
Discussion
This has happened in Nottigham on their ring road. Its equiped with SPECS and the residents on other roads are complaining about the increase in traffic. One solution Notiigham has done to this is to put speed humps on other roads. Nice eh!
Its still a valid point though, as speed humps are not good as they cause concertina effects. So it will be interesting to see how this develops. So "watch this space"
Are traffic planners really this stupid?! The Local Authority get into an unholy cabal with Police and contractors, but rarely the public, to decide where to site speed (sorry, "safety!" ) cameras, but seem unable to foresee the future effects. Traffic is like an ants' nest - block off one run and the ants spread out to find alternatives - boy, do we pay for some thick people!!

wslogue - The trafficmaster system uses all sorts of sensors.. the ones that read your plate are a blue box with a black window around the size of an old school lunchbox. They are monted on blue poles with ariels on them and are also mounted on motorway bridges usually in the middle lane hanging about a meter out from the bridge. They also have other sensors that ar really small gray boxes that fire a laser straight down on the road.
As you have mentioned most speed cameras are of the big grey box variety with the exception of SPECS which looks like an overgrown security camera with infra red illuminaters on each side. If you need more info on this goto www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk
Hope this helps.

I've got trafcam in my Elise, and it works very well. The couple of cameras it didn't know about were easily entered and are now in the main db. One thing I _really_ like about it is that it draws an arrow pointing in the direction the camera is, so I can ignore warnings about cameras that are within range, but not on the road I'm on. Having a general purpose GPS in the car is a boon as well for route plotting, marking pubs etc. If you have a Palm (or Handspring/Sony thing), then it is well worth considering.

If you are thinking about buying a GPS detection system.
I personally would wait and see the origin blue i.
Instead of having a dirty big Palm on your dashboard the blue i has a screen already on there telling you the same information. (speed you are travelling at, distance to camera, direction of camera, has a voice alert, etc etc)
far better than trafcam & Geodesy

Geodesy 2 is/will be very similar and past experience with the company puts them No1 in my book.
Geodesy 2 is what you already have!!!!!
Morpheous have done a great stitch up job on you.
"Made from only the best components" yeh right
I've had 3 faulties and told them to stick it!!!
How can they make something look like something else when the patent laws will stop them!!!!
Mio,
Have you ever actually met the people / been to their Offices ??????
I did when I bought my unit and couldn't have asked for a nicer group of "enthusiasts" the brains behind the product all ride and race bikes and developed it to fill a need that they identified so it was the original. The Database is superb I have never found a camera it didn't know about and the closest I ever got to a faulty unit was when for no apparent reason mine went in to "test mode" which they identified over the phone and told me how to reset it. I use mine over a range of vehicles and a bike, have had it rained on, crashed a bike with it on, and tryed shaking it to bit on a V twin all of which its taken without missing a beat.
As for Patent law well I think you'll find it totally irrelevant unless it infringes "an invention" or a "major development" and even then one of the hardest and most expensive legal matters to enforce I know I've been there.
You don't work for Origin blue i do you ????

uhm ... mio ... err ... Palm is huge is it?? Have you ever held one?
Palm is proven technology. There is lots of software for it so it isn't just a speed camera detector. Many people will already have one. You can plug lots of GPS devices into it, including some that snap right on the back. It has got a proper screen that covers almost its entire surface so its perfect for "moving map" applications too.
Why on earth blue i wotsit decided to use different hardware, i can't imagine. They are likely to make their product more expensive and less reliable. Why reinvent the wheel?
Where these companies add value is in having a really good database and keeping it up to date.
Unless the trafcam DB is worse than the blue i wotsit, I don't see any benefit from the latter at all. So it can tell me my speed ... revolutionary! All these years I've been using my speedo ... doh!
I must say the Geodesy people seem like an excellent bunch and their product has the benfit that it is weatherproof so you can mount it on a bike. That clearly differentiates it from trafcam.
