take it to the press, this is just the sort of human interest story the Daily Mail would love.

The DVLA keep old licences for three months. Get in touch with them ASAP to resolve it before the incompetent tts remove your entitlement permanently.

According to watchdog, even a photocopy of your original is no use as they'll claim it's a forgery.

Surely DVLA have records (not the musical type) going back forever. I know this doesnt alter their incompetence in this case but, if I misplaced/lost my license and needed a replacement they should be able to issue me with a new one. I have had the old paper style for 25 years adding bike entitlement 10 years later. Thinking of updating but maybe I should get BiB/Solicitor/Doctor/Priest/Teacher to witness what I have at the moment
Bit worrying that this type of thing happens. Sounds like the DVLA are saying, We cant do anything---The computer said no!!!!

Nothing new with the DVLA - DVLC as it then was - getting things like this wrong.

20 odd years ago I 'lost' my motorcycle entitlement when I sent my licence in for a change of address!!!!!!!

They wouldn't even add it back on when I found my old 'little red book' license that proved my entitlement.

The more things change .............

Please Please post to tell us you aren't serious mate.

Doesn't matter how black things seem to be or actually are what you're considering is very much a one way ticket.

May seem trite but remember - the darkest hour is still only 60 minutes long.

You CAN come out the other side of this, but it is your choice.

Ok Matchless lets try and get some ammo.

Where did you pass your test?
Is the test centre still open?
Have they been approached to see if they have any record still (long shot).
When were you last stopped by Police on the motor cycle and produced your Licence?
Were you given a producer?
Which Station?
When you obtained vehicle Insurance did you ever give Licence details and groups to obtain?.
Did that Insurance Co take a record if so can they confirm?.
Can you remember the VRM's of the motor cycles owned since taking the test (use to confirm a regular rider and DVLA should have record of your ownership)?
Regarding HGV. Employer bound to have kept records as in the old days offence to employ an unlicensed driver.?

Have you fully entered into correspondence with DVLA over this with as much evidence as you can on the above points.?

OK so a lot of hassle and failing that as it seems that as a regular rider/driver
you should have little difficulty in passing a re=test. Any assistance from Job Centre on this?

Annoying I agree but these things happen. I know they shouldn't but life aint perfect for any of us, so chin up.

Have you thought of contacting your local MP? Don't know where you live but you could contact by email or even visit one of their "surgeries". You could even contact the transport minister - all government departments are ultimately responsible to us (the electorate). Go to the TOP! Any help from CAB? Can you follow up on any of DVDs suggestions? I can understand your frustration and anger. Why not draft an article for the press (human interest story - "Denied work because of DVLA mix-up" and post it here for commen/addition - and if anyone "advised" you not to go public that is a story in itself! Good luck!

No, NO and NO. He took his test and has a legal entitlement to drive/ride. And as for being warned about going to the press, I can't think of a better reason to do it.

Who warned you not to contact the press. Was it by letter or phone? If it was the DVLA, obviously they don't want their incompitance made public. I would certainly try and go public after a warning like that, What have you got to lose. Are they going to "send the boys round to shut you up"

The only down side is, you need to proof of entitlement. DvD had some excerlent points earlier, as always!

Was telling the other half about this last night, he said contact the BBC and tell them to meet you at Swansea outside the DVLA building.

He also wondered if maybe you can do them for loss of income etc due to all this. (probably a question for the more legal minded on here)

Good luck with it, it stinks!
