I have a serious question... If you're out driving in your car and suddenly the speedometer breaks and only reads zero, would you:
A)Immediately pull over to the side and call the recovery truck or
B)Carry on regardless
Presumably you'd have to stop and wait rather than risk driving at an unsafe speed?

Hands up anyone who has a calibrated speedo!
How does anyone know that their speedo is displaying the correct speed - at all times (within the acceptable tolerance of 0% to +10%)? There’s no requirement to have these measuring devices checked once the car has left the factory, yet adherence by these things form the cornerstone of the government’s supposed road safety policy.

You'd have to stop. You can't possibly drive safely without a speedometer.
The question may sound banal but it's a serious one. If you really do truly believe that <=70 in a 70 is safe and >70 in a 70 is unsafe, and you believe that so much that you're punishing people who are exceeding the speed limit on the basis of safety, you can only answer A since B condones dangerous driving.
But answering A sounds so dumb it must create a paradox -- a "does not compute" in the camera proponent's minds.
This question seems to crystalise the whole nonsense of "speed kills" really simply and I'd like to hear anyone who normally supports the speed camera policy.

Aren't they made to over read as opposed to under reading?

I would do the same! But as we all know, what is safe and what is legal is different. What if you were approaching a speed camara without a speedo, You would probably slow down to a much slower speed than required

Exactly this happened to me this summer. Driving along in the Caterham, speedo needle starts to bounce more violently than usual and then speedo (and odo) stop working. I carried on regardless.
Did you want reasoning behind it too?
Edited to add - I'm not a scammera operator though, doubt you'll find any here.

Sorry. You post wasn’t clear in stating you were looking for a response from scammers only.
Anyway, I doubt you’ll find anyone on PH who’ll admit to being a scammer (but there are real BiB). You could try on PePiPoo where several confirmed scammers have been known to frequent.
If you have ever owned a Tuscan, you might actually have first hand experience of this!
My Tuscan used to have a wildly wavering speedo before it would just settle on zero for a few minutes.
What I did was when it was working workout what the rpm should be for those speeds in a relevant gear. I think it was something like 30 was 2000 in third 40 was 2000 in 4th, 70 was 2600 in 5th etc.
In that car though, because of the sound and reaction of the engine being so expressive, I only had to actually check the rpm when I came up to a camera, and to be frank that was only for my piece of mind.
That being said though, I do not think this would work in any car or any driver. The average 'sunday driver' or the prat who cuts you up on a roundabout by approaching in the left hand lane, and does not indicate with the full knowledge he is going right, would no doubt need to see a speedo to see how fast they are going.

I once actually posed that very question directly to the PR manager of a SCP, and guess what he said?
Call out the AA to either repair it or tow him home/destination.

But it's in my truck. When I am in my car that's not got a working speedo I check by the revs or time myself between roadside points and calculate the speed by time and distance covered as I don't want to be a regular law breaker >> Edited by falcemob on Wednesday 18th January 16:00

I can picture this now. There’s you, calculator in one hand, stopwatch in the other, looking for the motorway markers (might have a bit of difficulty doing that on any other type of road) – seems like a bit of a distraction
