I have a serious question... If you're out driving in your car and suddenly the speedometer breaks and only reads zero, would you:

A)Immediately pull over to the side and call the recovery truck or
B)Carry on regardless

Presumably you'd have to stop and wait rather than risk driving at an unsafe speed?

I used to scam!

But I am reformed now!

My answer as a camera operator would be that I would be able to tell fairly precisely what speed I'd be doing from the sound of the engine, movement of other vehicles etc etc., and would be very unlikely to get close to the limit.

Law provides a defence that you are allowed to continue a journey with a broken speedo. You can continue to use your vehicle if you have made arrangements for the speeo to be repaired with all reasonable expedition.

So is operating a Scamera van without a brain but it doesn't stop the partnerships.

Go away, don't let the door hit you on the arse on your way out.

I once actually posed that very question directly to the PR manager of a SCP, and guess what he said?

Call out the AA to either repair it or tow him home/destination.

I then asked if he realy couldn't drive safely without a speedo,

reply,

speed kills, against the law blah blah blah BS BS BS.......etc etc.

You can't really expect anyone with intelligence to be doing that sort of job. Another government employment scheme for the otheriwse unemployable.

I just use the tacho instead.

Double the rpm's in 100's in top gear and thats my speed in mph. Oh so easy

Alternatively, just drive really slowly everywhere just to make sure, until I'm in the clear from roads that are busy and safe (invariably where scam operators lurk), and get my boot down on the real dangerous ones that are quiet that have a low yield for income and hence no "safety camera's" :P
