Single yellow line - signage?
Discussion
Anybody know if there's any requirement for signage, ie a plate to accompany a single yellow line these days? Or has that been scrapped?
I parked on a 16 ft single yellow as all the parking bays were full. All the residents bays for streets nearby were empty but I chose the saab lengthed single yellow line Hey presto I won myself a £30 ticket. At least it seems to be from real bib or a traffic warden.

Boosted, I would suspect that you live/park in an area where the LA have applied and been granted an Order designating the area a Permitted Parking Area and Special Parking Area (Controlled Zone) under Scehdule 3 Road Traffic Act 1991. As such there is no obligation to have signs accompanying the yellow line as the prohibition will be mentioned on the signs at the start of the Zone. Also the effect of the Order allows LA to enforce by Parking Attendents.
If no Order in force then there should be signs accompanying the lines explaining the limit. Normally enforcement by Traffic Warden - Police employed.

Thanks DWD, there don't appear to be any signs anywhere. There's residents parking area, a 90 degree bend then a saab length of single yellow followed by 20 odd yards of residents parking area. There's a pole and plate designating the residents areas.
Given what you say above, should there be a sign at the start/end of the yellows or at the entrance to all the side streets in this area? I'll have to back track half a mile or so
I've reread your posting and have grasped what you're saying. Thanks

Ate twenny fower am Puggit is in Porking area..... (CBB)
The Road Traffic (Permitted Parking Area and Special Parking Area) (Borough of Reading) Order 2000 (Stat Inst 1719) was granted to Reading to set up PPA and SPA within the area listed in the Order. As I understand it they can set up Controlled Zones within. Enforcement is removed from Police hands into the hands of the LA.
The PPA and SPA/Controlled Zone should be signed as such at all entrances to the areas giving the times of the restriction and which exempts them for plate signing each and every yellow line. The only time a plate needs to be displayed is where there is a difference between what is stated at the entrance to that at the site.
