Hi there fellow PistonHeads can anybody help me with a query that i have regarding cameras in vans. You know the type, the van is parked up along side the duel carriage way, away from you and poking out the top of the rear doors through a little hatch is a couple of cameras. My question to you all is this....I was travelling down the A13 towards Southend with the Road Angel on and for some spooky reason it didn't pick the bloody things up so just to doubled check i did a u-turn and drove back past them but again no joy. I'm using the Road Angel that's titled `New Road Angel` which is oval shaped. Can somebody please help before i give them a call and demand my money back !!!!!!

No speed camera arrangement uses 'a couple of cameras' in a van.

Sounds like 'Automatic Number Plate Recognition' (ANPR).

Also, you cant rely 100% on a Road Angel or any other GPS based device because they are only as good as the database within them. If the scammers start to use a new location it may well not be in the system.

You also cant rely 100% on a laser detector especially if its mounted on the windscreen because they aim at your number plate and at shorter ranges the laser spread wont be enough to trigger a warning. There are some systems (e.g DriveSmart and RoadPilot) which allow you to put a detector or detectors by the number plate which should give you a better chance of picking up a signal
