How many of you realise that your, as in your car, your English, etc is "your" and you're, as in you're nicked, you're bang out of order, being a contraction of "you are" is "you're"?

I see people getting this wrong all the time on chatrooms. Be interesting to take a straw poll here...

This could be a big big thread - "brakes" and "breaks", "reckless" and "wreckless" are just a few !

To pull someone up on grammar, you need to be able to form complete sentences yourself!

I think we understood the gist of your message SM. That in itself demonstrates that getting hung up on the grammar and spelling is really a side issue. I draw the line at text speak though. My wife was marking some A-lavel Biology papers online last night and I was amazed at the level of text speak that has infiltrated its way into exam papers. They don't get marked down for it though which is a travesty.

Brakes and breaks is the one that really gets to me. I've even seen it used incorrectly in newpapers. I thought journalists would at least be able to get something like that right. Mind you, I get told off by my daughter for wasting characters because I use proper spelling, punctuation and capitalisation in text messages too.

i find you can often tell someones age by how they spell. usually the worse the spelling, the younger they are.

"Loose" instead of "lose" really annoys me, and seems to be widespread.

Last week I saw a parked van that had: "HONK IF YOUR HORNY" written in the grime on the back. I couldn't resist adding the required apostrophe and 'E'.

I saw some graffiti that I assumed was written by a jilted girlfriend.

It said "Kaz is a lier" in big red letters over a road sign.

I was very tempted to get some paint and correct the spelling.

As for your and you're I never bother with exact punctuation on forums, the same as Im and I'm. As long as people understand what I mean then I dont worry.
Making propper sentences and stuff is more important, nothing worse than a half page post with no full stops or capitals as you cant understand it.
