My nipper took his test yesterday. While we were out practising, my constant mantra seemed to be "slow down - check the limit", so what does the dozy twonk do? Apparently drove too much below the limit! Ah well, at least all the babies are safe !!

I was a "dozy twonk" 36 years ago and failed my first test for the same reason. Something like "not driving according to varying road conditions".

Got a few speeding tickets in my early days after passing so don't worry. When he passes he'll speed up.

Had the same on my first bike test. Road between housing estate and playing fields, cars parked both sides, kids with footballs, 30mph didn't seem appropriate. Not according to the examiner as I was failing to make adequate progress, or words along those lines. Was a few years ago though.

Cheers

Theres a fair bit of suspicion that tests are passed not by skill, but by quota.

It is true. Whichever authority it is decides how difficult the test should be and thus what percentage of people should be passing it. Lets say, 50%.

If an examiner is overlooked by someone who is looking to keep standards at 50%, what would happen to the last two drivers on the day, if all the rest had passed? Conversely what would be the effect if all of the previous drivers that day had failed?

Take your test on Monday before the quota kicks in...

As I have mentioned on previous threads, DSA Examiners working out of the same office have to be within 10% of each others pass/fail figures at the end of every week. Not my opinion but DSA rules. MY opinion---it can only be acheived if manipulated!

I nearly failed for going too slow, holding up traffic doing 28 in a 30 back in '86 while trying not to go too fast The examiner used common sense though and said "I doubt going too slow will be a problem for you young man so I'll pass you".

I guess your ability to drive has less to do with passing these days. Iriots.
