............. Imagine the surprise when I turned up later that evening and hand delivered his NIP. He is currently awaiting his disclosure docs for our recollection of the events in front of the referees

Must admit this leaves me with some very ambiguous feelings.

No doubt the Elise driver was in the wrong and deserved to be taken to task - just doesn't sit easy that an off-duty PC that's out with a mate should be able to act in this way and issue a NIP.

What was the actual offence - Dangerous? Without Due Care? Speeding? (Just interested).

Think what sits uneasy is that a PC on duty will be at a level of psychological awareness that a off-duty PC may very well not, and hence better able to rapidly assess a situation. Afterall if you're out with a mate you're relaxed and, I assume, enjoying yourself - on duty, you're 'switched on' and alert, or should be.

If we start going down this road, where will it end? Off-duty PC walking home from the pub with his mates - perhaps had a drink or two - you see where this is going ...........

As I said in opening - the Elise driver was in the wrong, but just can't feel 100% happy and confident in the means.

Sorry it sounds like someone went on a powertrip rather then for the good of road safty....

Would you be saying that if YOU were one of the drivers he undertook dangerously and nearly hit? No, you'd be ranting on here about how Police do nothing and are never there when you need them blah blah blah. Mg6b is a very experienced Officer and i doubt very much if he is prone to 'powertrips'.

mg6b. If you are that professional a police officer you would not be on this "civilian" web site boasting. My experience is "Those who can do, Those who can't talk about it" You my friend talk too much.

No, I would be claiming off the other guys insurance and moaning about his driving - not about the police.

If you would like me to moan about the police in my area then fair enough - how come they can spend mornings sat on the side of local roundabouts and hidden behind bushes down ditches on the local dual-carriageway, but cannot stop idiot’s terrorising elderly neighbours, vandalising cars and dealing drugs out of stolen cars – However, this has about as much relevance to my original comment/post as yours did.

I'm with the BiB, gotta say...

Have just dropped back down from 11 points to 8, all of which were for speeding, only one set from a TC (Stow, never forget him!) for XS MPH on the A1... I've been pulled a few times an an enthusiastic, but on the whole, safe and sage driver. Every TC I've dealt with has noted my approach to speed and manoeuvres based on conditions and traffic and used their discretion wisely. - The car is pretty unique locally (old E30 to save you looking) so I dare say that each time I've been tugged it's because I've overstepped the line.

I'm aware that OD officers can still hoy my carcass in the clink, and with many unmarked cars around you should just always drive, and act generally, within what any sensible person would see as a reasonable manner.

What a totally ridiculous post. Pathetic. Grow up. You should be thankful that we're here trying to help people and impart some knowledge. Most of my colleagues would think me completely mad for even trying to inform people of what we do and why we do it. Everyone seems to be experts on the Police, and able to do our jobs sooooo much better than us....

Why the secrecy from your colleages Hollywood? What kick do you get from nicking a chap in a yellow Lotus and how does that prevent crime. You grow up, do your job, face proper hardened criminals (without backup) like your pal mg6b(laugh). Inform people of what you do, why? you are mearly a public servant , here to serve people like me, who pay your wages. And by the number of posts you have made on this site you spend less time on duty, maybe you watch too much Holywood..... yipeee i aye........ me thinks you are bitter and twisted, unloved etc....... go and earn your wages.

This is an internet forum, if noone is allowed to write here on the basis of "Those who can't talk about it", then there would not be many posts here now would there...

We are just motorists, why use axamples of thieves and burglars or "If someone stabbed you & I was off-duty" style counter arguments? They don't apply to motoring. Motorists are not the same as criminals.

Yes there are good cops and bad cops, good motorists & bad motorists. It would be silly to think otherwise.

I don't need a power trip!
I got rid of them decades ago when I was a sprog!

I rarely bother with any motoring offences these days, even on duty unless they are blatent dangerous plonkers who think they own the road or toe rags taking the p155.

If I see something that warrants putting pen to paper, I can assure you it is worth the bother

I may be wrong but I get the feeling I have probably been policing longer than you have been alive . The need for any 'trip' apart from the one taking plonkers to custody has long past me

Strange you should say that. I have left on more than one occasion I am back now though

Thank you for your curiosity about my experience. I do not feel the need to share that or any qualifications I may or may not have with you. You have made an assumption that you are quite entitled to make. I note you are a PH virgin with 6 posts. If you need to gain a reference, you might like to research some of the PH hard core, several of whom I have met and even taught some stuff to over the last few years. Maybe you could start with Petrol Ted .

Welcome in any case. If for some reason I find a question for which you might need an answer or an educated opinion, I may find that I might decide to refrain from talking

At least I know you are my friend

Not too bad. Back in your neck of the woods, mainly watching th M4 drift past day in day out with the added bonus of departures and landings floating over the top.

Mostly driving a desk these days which is supposed to drive performance! Shame I can't have a performance desk really !
