Does anyone know if speed camera warning signs with yellow borders are legal?

On the recently aired Trevor MacDonald program on Speed cameras I seem to recall an expert who claimed that such signs were illegal and therfore could be used as a defense by drivers caught by cameras in areas using such signs.

Does anyone have any information, evidence or experience to support this?

The signs in McDonuts prog were illegal because the yellow reflective background was circular. Legal ones are rectangular. There's more to it than that, but does that answer your question?

I think there was a post on here several months ago about someone that escaped a fine because of that sign type.

Try searching the forum.

Since there's not a requirement for the camera signs to pursue the offence of speeding, does it matter if they are illegal from the PoV of the speeding offence?

Obviously the signs should be legal and the LA/HA chased to correct them.

The signs on the TV program were actually speed limit signs; basically your bog standard 30-limit sign mounted on a circlar reflective background, hence the 'unenforceability' of the limit.
