Specifically this

"The speed induction loops are being installed at the request of the Devon and Cornwall Safety Partnership."

Wonder what devious plan they are on to.

Working out if they have enough evidence to justify putting cameras on a fast-but-safe road:-

"Look, everyone speeds along there, we must stop it before someone is killed."
Instead of:-
"Look, everyone speeds along there - is the speed limit appropriate?"

One of the sites that my local scameraship visits produced some interesting results. They did a speed-survey (to see if it needed enforcement). According to their own website, 98% of vehicles were breaking the speed limit.

There has never been an accident on that road.

My thoughts were the same. Whatever result they get will be twisted to justify a new Scamera.

Bit of digging produces this

www.gnn.gov.uk/content/detail.asp?ReleaseID=188307&NewsAreaID=139&NavigatedFromSearch=True

"The £2,500 scheme is being carried out at the request of the Devon and Cornwall Safety Camera Partnership to improve safety by allowing mobile speed enforcement cameras to operate. "

Slimy NCUTS.

It says 21 accidents in the last 5 years on that bit of road. Well there is a low bridge 1/2 mile up the road which is constantly being hit by tall trucks and I believe there was a fatal last year.. burglar fleeing from police IIRC. Id guess this is what they are referring to. Oh and there is already a Gatso there which is obviously doing its job well.

That area has long queues during the summer and the accidents are prob due to vehicles coming over the brow of the hill and running into the back of stationary traffic. The junctions at the bottom of Highgate hill have very short sliproads and tight corners as well.

I have never seen an accident there even thought I have passed it twice a day for over two and a half years. The money would be better spent on improving the junctions and warning tourists of the queues ahead.

The new Goss Moor bypass will be there soonish though and the queues should be no more, also the Iron Bridge will be out of the equation. If that was the cause of the accidents maybe the scammers thought they should get their cams in quick while they still had an excuse ?
