Not impressed at the mo - my hubby was driving our 6 week old Tusc today when one of the cans fell off.
As he was on the motorway, he came off at the next opportunity.

This will presumably have been removed from the carriageway - are bits like this kept and if so, how do we find out where so that we can go and get it?

I'd get in touch with the highways agency, chances are it was a traffic officer that collected it, unless that is, it has been heavily modified!!!

Check ebay.

Seriously though, if the can came off at lets say around 70, the chances of it coming off and making its way to the side of the road without terminal damage are pretty slim.

In fact, there may be more chance in by reporting this that if the can has damaged another vehicle that the Highways Agency may be passing the bill to your insurers.

Ok, so am I better to keep quiet?
Warranty should cover it as it shouldn't have fallen off.

The car is brand new and I'm pretty pee'd off that it wasn't put on properly in the first place.
Best part of £50K and they can't even do the screws up properly.

I'd want it back, your car is missing a part of it, you wouldn't like it if you lost an arm!!

Forget the old one. Warrenty claim it. It shouldn't have come off.

I would definitely not try and get it back ....... it would almost certainly have been hit or run over by other vehicles ...... which, as has been mentioned, may have sustained damage from your exhaust .

If you go back to the dealer they will replace it for nothing so why bother trying to reunite yourself with it .

I've heard of a similar case before. The guy pulled over at the next junction to inform the police...when they arrived he got done for insecure load or something like that, can't remember exactly. Keep quiet, then get back to the dealer and give them hell, they deserve it that's disgracefull on a new car!

Well we have, but nothing ever fell off it on the motorway!

Thanks guys, I hadn't thought about the possibility of getting "done" for it.

Yes, likely to be the case, as like myself the other day. Driving along nicely at 80 (indicated) with cruise on. Literally a second before hand, truck behind and in left hand lane (2 lane M-way) flashed lights. No sooner than I re-averted my eyes from the RV mirror to the road ahead - no-one ahead of me for all intent purposes, and I notice a rolling hubcap having come from the other side of the M-way through the gaps in the armco.
Needless to say, no chance to react, and it was extensively modified before being spat out behind me by the front valance. No real damage other than a bit of scuffing.

So, moral of the story - if you find bits dropping off, just best ignore it and pretend it's nothing to do with you.
Seriously, I reckon TVR will stand over the pipe without much of a complaint by them to do so.

New TVR in Broken Car Shocker.

Hmmm. It's not going to sell many papers.

Chances are it will have been a man in a van who collected it, they patrol the motor ways and go to situations on response to the police. If its a large bit of car then the traffic police may very well have collected it but the chances of you getting it back are very slim, let alone the fact that you would have to go into a police station and say you want it back.

Do you really want to explain to a desk sergent why your car is not road worthy and bits fall off it!?! Not my opinion but the very the BiB may very well take.

Would TVR care to explain to trading standards why a brand new car was not road worthy. I doubt any blame can be placed on the owner in this case.

Whoever picks it up (if in a live lane, could be HATO, or Plod) would then leave it next to the nearest markerpost (the litle sticks every 100 meters apart) radio in the location, then the ISU (Incident Support Unit) will collect it on their next patrol of that stretch (usually min 2 patrols / day) on arrival back their base, it'll go into the skip (unless evidence for a RTC)

i saw a tyre just serenely roll off the wheel of a cavalier the other day, driving down the M11. don't think the driver noticed wither until a lorry started flashing at him.
