I just got flashed tonight going through a green traffic light by a red light camera. Should I be worried? anyone know what I should do? I don't want to get prosecuted for going through a green light

I wouldn't worry particularly. I have been flashed on several occasions by defective cameras. Nothing has ever happened, but I am in the habit of making a "contemporaneous note" when it happens. Ie write down when, where, time, circumstances, other cars around etc on a piece of paper. Date it, sign it and file it somewhere safe!

Contemporaneous notes are great things and have come to my aid in several disputes in the past (especially with insurance companies). It means that you have an accurate and positive record of events if it is ever needed. Never had to use it in the circs you describe though.

Ok thanks for your advice. I`ll write a few notes now and keep it just in case. It would just be my luck to get stung for going through a green light! There is just too many cameras around its getting silly!

If its one of this type:

then they can be set to operate as red light cameras when on red and speed cameras when on green.
Whether your one is set up like this I don't know...

I did think that it could be one of these digital ones. I don't think it is one of these. The camera has been there ages and does not look like one of these new types. Plus do these new types actually flash?

I didn't think so, but the picture above seems to show a flash unit...

Worth phoning your local nick / camera unit?

Had a rad light camera flash me at green and phoned it in, turns out they already knew as several plodcars had already been flashed.

They put a new speed camera up near me and, before it was put into use, it was set to flash at random so that people would notice it.

Caused a near riot with people heading to the Police station apoplectic with rage 'cos they were certain they hadn't been speeding!

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime (driving)

I called my local police station, who said it was nothing to do with them and I need to contact the Council, but because it is Easter weekend it will have to wait until Tuesday! I`ll see what they say!

Also had a normal Gatso go off in my face at dusk, doesn’t half knock out your vision for a while. Those things are bright.

I think the new digital cameras (the tall poll type posted above) function as both a red light AND independent camera when fitted at lights?

Looks to me like theyre just going to alienate even more drivers and make red light cameras a legitimate target for MAD, which is a pity, cos i dont have a problem with red light cameras at all.

Why would you be speeding through a lights controlled junction, DF?

Apart from some questionable claims for shorter amber timings at red light camera sites, there is credible evidence from TRL research that red light cameras do improve safety at ATS junctions. To corrupt this benefit with pointless money raising speed enforcement is the height of folly, but it's only to be expected when the revenue raising speed tax industry gets into overdrive.

Perhaps he was doing 35 through the junction. Is that REALLY 'speeding' as the vast majority of drivers see it?

I was not speeding, it is a 50 limit road and I was doing around 40, when the camera flashed and almost blinded me!
Thanks for everyones replies, still no luck getting in contact with the council.
