I simply don't believe ANYTHING that the British media report now. I've no interest in seeing this programme. Please folks, try and take it with a pinch of salt. As if our morale wasn't low enough!!!

I'll watch it, but only out of interest to see how it is spun. Having watched similar progs. on things I know about, it's all bollox basically !

The sad thing is there were two Dispatches this week. Monday's was about youth crime and yob culture. Whilst it was still filming for effect (and they did say, to be fair, that people were playing to the camera) it probably says far more about the problems in society than a few coppers playing cricket in the car park (anyone with an IQ > 20 knows in a job that can be difficult you have to have an outlet)

Not paying full price for kebabs? Hopefully donuts as well
Watching porn at the police station? Essential check on standards
Ducking jobs and general laziness? Stress and trauma related fatigue
Playing cricket in the station car park? Costs less than Brunstrom's stress balls

You wonder how much of this is "led by the nose". It's not too difficult to push a conversation in the direction you want it to go, film it, then edit out the lead up.

Nail; head; hit; firmly; squarely.

Oh by the way chaps, any of you car park cricketers fancy a knock and a few overs on a rainy day you can always wander round and use the cricket nets we can and do set up in our "loading bay" for want of a better description.

A few bad members of any organisation is not really a surprise.

However, what can destroy the ethics or the original good intention of an organisation (mainly a public sector "service", is when it's "target-driven".

We've seen what is happening to the NHS with its BS targets and how they have nothing to do with patient care and everything to do with managerial arse-covering. I'm sure the same slide downhill is being experienced with the UK police force / service in the name of targets.

About police officers and kebabs / dohnuts

If I consumed as many snacks as a police officer I'd expect a discount as well

Only joking. On a slightly more serious note (not!!), if I owned a kebab shop and had to be in it on a Saturday night I would give police officers every incentive to be around the place as much as possible.

In our new target driven services, I would have thought that the amount of fast food discount available to the police officers was a good measure of performance

You are behind the times, it's far more cosmopolitan now. They've moved on to Panini's.

Liebchen .. I already said I know you are not one of the "shirking" minority.

They do exist.. I mention the programme as it ist to be aired und some will jump on bib bash bandwagon. Ist to view for self.. und try to judge how accurate the edit.

Did she target only that handful she know to play "Baddy Blobby" or "Dick Doughnut" und fail to show the majority hard at it ... compensating for these fails in colleagues.

Because let us face it - each time you sit in the snug at the pub or venture into general steam room or juice bar at gym ...we hear Average Joe the Office Worker complain about his Ricky Gervais type boss ...und the person who skives, throws sickies at slightest...

They exist in the offices, medical professions, fire service und the police...but the danger in this programme ist overall potential image portrayed of tubs of lazy lard in blue serge - which ist only true - perhaps - of 5% NATIONALLY across the 43 still existing forces (und it may increase if these expand as more may slip net. - who knows? )

So - I warn all BiB on board that programme has been made so that they can view und add their comments ...set things straight from their experience. I am more than aware that this ex officer may have only targetted those who show this slip shod attitude or even just included any lapses arising from a "bad day".

I am sure majority work hard ..und I do owe my life to a police officer anyway.

Ist programme which may be informative but should be viewed with the open mind

I can see a couple of hefty BiB drooling over these ....

You know there is a doughnut addiction problem when on nights the tea spot of choice leaves a quantity of dough mixture out and instructions to remember to turn the fryer off. :ahem:

Well there's something we can do.

It's good to write to tv and radio stations, newspapers and magazines when there's some motorist vilification to redress. So, PHers on SPL (at least) could write to the beeb, ITV, broadsheets, tabloids and magazines to make positive comments about front line BiB. Here's a starter kit, feel free to add more and advise of any dufff stuff.

letters@the-times.co.uk (only print letters unique to The Times)
expressletters@express.co.uk or letters@express.co.uk (?)
letters@dailymail.co.uk
letters@independent.co.uk
feedback@bbc.co.uk
editor@itn.co.uk

As usual - Dibs.. you show fair play.

To olf und other who find my command of English without the support stick of spell check a bit "OTT to read" - prog ist aired this Thursday und "Wail" may have Nina's piece on-line to skim through still. Was page 26/27 in Monday's press.

I used to use spell checker. It's a bit soul destroying when you have to correct too many words...

To be fair love all you really need to do is change two words, 'und' to 'and' and 'ist' to 'is' and you'll be a whole lot more comprehensive.

While I agree with the sentiments, I think this is a bad idea.

For the public, this is tomorrow's chip paper. Unless it was something really serious (like say the BiB were running a protection racket !) which it clearly isn't, at worst a few coppers have been prats, people will have forgotten about it in two minutes.

The people who might suffer are those unfortunate cops who have been spun by this woman who might get stuffed by their bosses. I think "keeping it going" might even harm their case (with ACPO et al so interested in the media) ; it might be best to let it die. I doubt there is much we can do to help the cops in question, sadly.

Ahh leave the kitty alone - I like her writing although it can take a couple of tries to figure it out sometimes.

As you'd expect I disagree, the complaint would be about the media portrayal as well wouldn't it? They need to know.

Expressing views in print where you can, when they are well argued and written in fairly calm language, influence people, and we need to influence people.
