I bought a tax disc online for my other half a while ago. I was pretty amazed at the lack of security as there was no check on billing name or address. Just seemed a little weird, but I was still shocked at how quickly it came.
It reminded me of the farce if losing the paper part of my driving license. I phoned the DVLA and asked how to get a replacement as I'd seen something somewhere saying I could get a replacement over the phone. The very polite lady on the other end of the phone said that as I'd only lost the paper part they could not issue a replacement and I'd have to go to the post office and fill out a form etc.... She then informed me that they could only re-issue the card AND paper together and then asked me if I was certain it was only the paper part I'd lost. I could see where she was going and so all of a sudden I realised I couldn't find the card either! "Oh dear, could you send a replacement?" I asked, £18 and 36 hours later I received a replacement license through my door.
While I appreciated her subterfuge it did seem a little silly that the system worked in this way!
