A reply,

"Dear XXXXX

Thank you for your email and sorry to hear you are unhappy with our stance that speeding on country lanes can be dangerous.

The figures and opinions which have been quoted are not simply Direct Line's but rather based on research amongst UK motorists with three out of four saying they felt 60mph limit was set too high and in certain areas they would like it reduced plus figures from the Government itself on accidents and fatalities on country roads. Please be assured we are not taking the stance that speed is the only cause of accidents on the roads, and this is certainly not a guise to increase profits rather the warn motorists of the dangers.

I do hope you will reconsider and use Direct Line in the future.

Regards

Emma Holyer
PR Manager"

Ask them how many people were involved in the research, how they were selected and what questions they were asked!

I have

Excellent - I look forward to their response!

I still can't believe that three out of four figure. Must have been either weasel questions, demographic targetting or made up. I too look forward to hearing more about this.

"Dear XXXXX

Thank you for your email and comments. I'm afraid I don't think its approprate for an insurance company to comment on Dr Kelly or John Prescott but as I mentioned before the figures quoted are not simply Direct Line's but rather based on research amongst UK motorists with three out of four saying they felt 60mph limit was set too high and in certain areas they would like it reduced.

Best wishes

Might I suggest that these emails or letters should be going to MD or Chairman, not the PR lady?

Another unbelievably statistical survey.

We are becoming a nation controlled by statisticians.

Figures can be made to say what you want them to, for example if you were to ask the members of PH if they thought speed limits were too low on certain roads you would probably get a 90%+ agreement, but would the Insurance companies or government listen? - NO they'd suddenly turn deaf.

I live in a rural area and have noticed that there is a element of driver who will always drive at 40mph regardless of the posted limit. These type of people cause accidents, as on NSL roads people take increased risks to get by. In built up areas they still go by schools at 40mph. (Drive to the conditions FFS)

We need driver awareness and driving skills improved and policed not more blanket speed restrictions - the UK public is becoming brainwashed as they believe everything they see on TV. The result they accept it - "because it was on TV"

That was it? No mention of what the actual survey question was? Mmm, I think I'll write as well. If we all write then they'll soon get pd off.

I suspect everyone cancelling their policies (house and car) will do more damage to them than any letter.

Let them have the grannies only, see how many claims they have, kerbing the wheels, bouncing off walls, and hitting lampposts.
