Let's just suppose that some dashing young man, who recently got his first 3 points on his licence, drove under a bridge on the A3 at night, only to notice at the last second that there was a marked police car parked on it.
Suppose he was doing in the region of 95mph and immediately slowed down, but had already passed under said bridge with said police car on it.
Should this (entirely hypothetical) young man be really, really worried?

No, he probably needn't be worried at all. He was not chased, the police car is unlikely to have been using night-time laser speed detection as that is normally reserved for the scam-vans and they did not pursue him and stop/caution.
They were probably more concerned with other things and had just parked there for convenience.
However, if I were a young driver with 3 points already, I don't think i would drive at anything over any limit until those points were gone away or the 'probationery' period was over. 95 in a 70 with 3 more points to disqualificatoin really is rather, how shall I put it, 'unwise'.

Don't worry, I'm... er, he's not THAT young and is way past probationary period.
I'm sure he'll be relieved to hear your view. When I tell him. Yes.
