Yet more proof that tax is more important than road safety.

Bad news?!?!!?

BURY IT!!

That seems to be the governments policy.

They'll probably make a public statement around budget day.

Absolute wankers.

Expand on that: anything that opposes a policy where by the government would have an excuse to charge us more in tax etc is labelled as complete bull sh*t. Climate change for instance- do the government ever inform the public of all the opposing views of these scientists: no, why, because they would have to debate who was right rather then how much extra tax we need to have.

The Global Warming issue is worse than the camerascam.

The lies perpetuated about CO2 is now beyond a joke -
Walkers Crisps are getting carbon emission logos on them!! -

WTF is happening to this country?

Didn't used to be like this.

Are people REALLY that simple? Tell a lie long enough and it becomes belief.

News get more shocking by the hour...

7 yr old kid violently stabbing a woman who was arguing with his mother...

Totally f.....g lost it this country.

I wary of eating an apple whilst driving now in case I get given hard labour...

Talking of Labour... I'd rather not!

As I've said before, speed cameras make excellent targets, rather for rifle than shotgun or pistol. They're at an upward angle so that a complete miss is unlikely to cause collateral damage, it's immediately obvious when they've been hit, and they're usually in relatively remote locations, minimizing the possibility of apprehension. It's a win-win situation in that if gov't replaces one, you've got a new target; if not, you've got one less of the bloody things.

One of the reasons I love PH so much is that it reminds me that back in blighty people don't lie down about this kind of thing. Paul has done a great job of pushing back at the government and whilst the war may not quite be won, Safespeed has got the government on the back foot.

Over here in Australia the war was lost a long time ago and there is no organisation like Safespeed to take the fight to government. Austalian's just bent over and took the whole Speed Kills message to heart via the back passage. In fact I doubt they even bothered to try and fight.

One observation from down here is that driving standards have become even worse that when I first got here - if that's possible. Most drivers believe that if they don't speed they simply can't crash and I think that is breeding a future generation of drivers that are so incompetent that they are storing up a huge amount of trouble for the future.

Anyway, the message from down here is 'keep up the good fight"

I wish someone would explain to me why this isn't at least worthy of a terrestrial news report.

Because, as with other things (specifically global warming), the message has gone out that speed kills, speed is wrong, speed is bad etc etc and people are now getting brainwashed. If you report something which may show that not to be the case then you are going to be ridiculed and told you are "off message".

I think that will only go on so long.. speeding tax, environment tax, greens tax, road toll tax, electronic tagging etc etc the motorist in the modern day UK is officially public enemy #1.. let the rapists, kiddie fidler etc out of jail, we need his cell for this terrorist driving at 103 MILES PER HOUR!!! down the motorway!

I'm sure there will come a time when people will stand for it no longer and I can't imagine it being too far away if government keep pushing these kinds of policies.

As the song goes, it will only go on so long then 'I predict a riot'.

This "poor" country has been going through a terrible phase, after Thatcher, ( when everybody ON EARTH, knew who were ), to now - when everybody on earth wants to be here, ( for the benefits ),

Now, what do we do ????????????????????????????????????.

Had someone road rage and try to run someone off the road in front of me while riding my bike yesterday. Then did an illegal U-turn at a pedestrian crossing right in front of me! All below 30mph!! Called the police who couldn't care less.

Speed cameras just don't address the cause of accidents - but they provide revenue - no wonder they canned th research!

In 1996 the DTI conducted a particular survey among businesses and collected (among others) a figure for losses suffered. Their computations suggested a loss to UK PLC that they instinctively felt was too small. The satisticians were order to reprogramme their computers and run the figures again. They did, and the answer then was one that was very believable. However, it was felt too large to quote in public. So they reverted to the original figures - Streaky

this "poor" country suffered under Thatcher blahhhh blahhhhh ....... you want an example of brainwashing......WHY is this government STILL blaming all the ills of the world on Mrs Thatcher oh ! i know "joe q public" swallows anything sorry i was forgetting... i mean they've only had TEN YEARS in power of COURSE its Mrs Thatchers fault completely and utterly, odd that coming from a government that only got into power by emulating utterly (and monumentally cocking up)elements of Thatcherism while publicly ridiculing it and i wont even ask why i work harder today than eleven years ago and yet im far far worse off in real day to day life.. considering his tonyness went the whole tory hog and quotes mcmillan as often as possible...........youve never had it so good britains in the best shape its ever been in AM I MISSING SOMETHING tony makes me wonder given this governments undeniable mastery of the spin if inflation is as low as the kilt says it is then why for the first time in years do i find more week than money ????

Speed cameras: A means of raising extortionate amounts of money so that our lazy b?????? traffic cops can retire on big fat pensions at the age of 50!!!!!
Speed kills: What a load of b??????s. If speed kills why are all of our racing drivers not dead???
Inability to control a vehicle at speed is the cause and not the problem.
Global warming: This country is supposedly only causing 2% of the problem yet Bliar has to show that we must be the nation to be taxed out of existence to pay for the other 98% who are doing sod all about it, methinks he should go and have a pow-wow with his good friend George W????? Bush and tell him to cut his emmissions.
My blood is just about at boiling point with whole sodding country and government thats why I,ve closed my business sacked 220 employees and am p!!!!!!
off to New Zealand to run a business where I have some money in my pocket at the end of the day!!!!!

So basically the Govt has said, "bollox to the facts, we're right, they're wrong, get the cash in and tell them to STFU".

Cant say I'm remotely surprised.

I think it's a bit worse than that. I'm confident that they know that they are wrong, but they are doing it anyway. Basically they would rather save face than save lives.

See the letter on the front page of the Safe Speed site: www.safespeed.org.uk and help us to do something about it.

Paul would this cancelled research have been collated do you think, and if so would it be available via a freedom of information request?

They are claiming that it was cancelled before any work was carried out. I have strong doubts that that's true and I'm on it.

I could sure use a mole at TRL. Anyone know anyone?

Folks with highly marketable transportable skills have
the choice to leave the UK.

It happened a lot in the 1960s - it was called the brain drain.
It is still happening now. USA, Canada, Australia and New
Zealand are all popular destinations.

Leaving the UK does not mean you throw away your
UK passport.

If the UK is that great why are so many highly skilled
people leaving ?

The point I was making is so many people have jacked it in since the 70's For France spain or wherever complaining about pretty much the same stuff, as we see here then when they become infirm or have long term health probs, they come back here after thirty years of contributing NADA and expect those of left to deal with the day to day pain to pick up the tab.

For destinations in the EU is this reasonable.

The EU gets bigger in size and scope all the time.
Who knows where it will be in thirty years time ?

Certainly the empire builders in Brussels will want
to harmonise health care across EU.

Anyone who wants to emigrate is fine by me but at least when they get old they should not become hypocrites and decide they will be better cared for here??

I can't see anything hypocritical in it - needs vary with age.
Why not vary your country of residence with your needs ?

Also, why hang about in dodgy old third world UK during your
adult life for health care in old age that is probably done
better elsewhere anyway ?

The only way to put over our displeasure with the government, politicians and the UK in general is to act as a group. Posting messages and griping about it is one thing, but to get noticed we need to act in unison.

Don't vote at the next election. Just don't f**cking bother. Make 'em all realise that the public have had enough of this unfair exploitation in every waking hour of our lives. Why vote for another bunch of w**nkers to just enforce their own brand of hypocrisy.

JUST DON"T VOTE. MAKE A PEACEFUL PROTEST. MAKE THEM TAKE NOTICE!

Cheers
