The only way to put over our displeasure with the government, politicians and the UK in general is to act as a group. Posting messages and griping about it is one thing, but to get noticed we need to act in unison.

Don't vote at the next election. Just don't f**cking bother. Make 'em all realise that the public have had enough of this unfair exploitation in every waking hour of our lives. Why vote for another bunch of w**nkers to just enforce their own brand of hypocrisy.

JUST DON"T VOTE. MAKE A PEACEFUL PROTEST. MAKE THEM TAKE NOTICE!

Cheers

Completely wrong. Wasting your vote guarantees that we get another Labour government. 75% of voters didn't vote Labour at the last election and they got back in. Use your vote wisely, don't waste it.

It's not easy though, is it?

I detest this government, but I can't envisage voting Conservative with any enthusiasm based on what I've heard recently. They seem to be shaping up to be a PITA, just maybe not as bad as Labour.

UKIP have some appeal for me, but would it be a wasted vote? In any case I don't know how they stand on issues other than Europe.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I do have some sympathy for you. As a lifelong Conservative and somebody who has been a party member and worked for them for years, I'm horrified at some of the things coming out of central office at the moment and very uncomfortable with some of of Cameron's utterances. However, here's the rub, only two parties have any chance of becoming the next Government - Labour or Conservative. Not voting, or voting for any other party, merely assists Labour in getting back into power. What I will say for Cameron is that I know his instincts are more in line with mine than his more recent policies. I hope he's playing a clever political game in order to gain the mass appeal he needs in order to get elected, at which point he will begin a gradual process of moving things back in a more natural direction. This is exactly what Blair has done, and done very cleverly. So, choose a lesser of two evils.

Not voting is the not the action to take as labour would get back in because of the non voters. The only people who vote for them are the down and outs, "single" mothers with 6 different kids all to different fathers who do not want to know their kids, the thousands of immigrants who are now "British" citizens and allowed to vote.
We need a radical change how about the BNP !!!!

Yes that makes sense, thanks. I just hope you're right.

Lesser evils though! It would be nice to find somebody we could vote for with a bit more enthusiasm and optimism.

Perhaps one day....

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Quite a few of my previous posts, echo what is being said here.
Unfortunately at the moment it is a matter of voting for the party which one believes will do the least harm to ones interests.
That means definately not The current shower, and definately not the Libdems unless you want everyone wearing sandals, eating mung beans and walking everywhere.
I have some deep reservations about Ca moron , and hope that as some have said, his current `green' angle is only a `ploy' to get into No 10. The only thing is, that it would be almost impossible for any government to be as bad as the `shower'.
One thing which might be significant is the proportion of people on EVERY web (not just concerned with motoring etc) site I have visited who are against road pricing and so called green taxes, compared to those who think these are a good thing.
Could it be that the ecomentalists are in fact in the minority, and the publicity/tv air time they get etc, is out of all proportion to their numbers? They point and scream at anyone who dares to question AGW etc, as a way of stopping debate before it even has a chance to get started, knowing that their minority view would be seen for what it really is, if proper debate is allowed to take place on the subject.
Plant a green, they make exellent compost!

Strikes me that the thread has wandered a bit. Its not speed that kills; its inappropriate speed that gets you. After 27 years driving, the last 10 driving Citroen CX turbos at incredible speeds, I decided that I was likely to lose my license so I bought a Smart, limited to 82 m.p.h. Got done for doing 81! Never even saw the camera. The moral is buy a fast car and concentrate instead of a small car and daydream while flat out. Tesla Roadster anybody?

When he said this in 1904, Mark Twain claimed to be quoting Disraeli, but was probably interpreting Lord Courtney's (q.v.) reference to "Wise Statesman" as being to Disraeli).

Benjamin Disraeli is most popularly attributed as having said it but it is also attributed to Henry Du Pre Labouchere (at unknown date), Leonard Courtney (in 1895 - with the words: "We may quote to one another with a chuckle the words of the Wise Statesman, 'lies ...'" ), Cornelia (Mrs Andrew) Crosse (in 1892) and an M Price MD (but most probably quoting someone else).

There is also some thought that this is a list of only two: lies and statistics; and that the "damned lies" was originally parenthetical cursing, vis: "Lies - damned lies - and statistics" (put the emphasis appropriately).
