article said: A Lambeth spokesman said: "Solicitors acting for Lambeth council have accepted breach of duty on behalf of their client. The council apologises to Mr Stewart. "As the matter is currently being litigated, we cannot comment further at this time but we are working hard to resolve this case as soon as possible." So the council have admitted screwing up big time, for the matter still to be in litigation they've clearly been spending the last few years arguing over the value. After this length of time I hope it goes to court and the Judge drop kicks the relevent head of Dept to Mars. Heads must roll.

Or the lawyers stretching the case out?

Reading that just makes me so angry. I hope this guy takes the council to the cleaners, but we all know that in this day and age, the council will no doubt be found blameless (even though they admit screwing up) and the lazy, fat, usless barstewards in office will get a slap on the wrists and told to be more careful in future.

How could they get it this wrong. The car should have been safely transported to a secure compound and the driver given a chance to pay the fine and costs, that is if it were not tax exempt which it was so should not have been touched in the first place.Sack everyone involved and for the council to still not have paid after two years is disgusting.A waste of a rare car by utter idiots.

what complete tools. the sickening think is they probably only nabbed it because it was any easy target too! whilst mr uninsured, untaxed chavboy gets away with it. if only the authorities crushed the cars with no insurance, no tax that had been caught (by anpr etc.) with the owner/driver in immediately that would be much better!

Even if the Council is forced to pay out, it's the rate-payers who'll suffer (again). No-one on the Council (or in any contractor) will have to put their hands in their pockets. THAT'S what's wrong. In central and local government, screw-ups never have to pay. When Jo Citizen makes a small error they suffer financially. When they try to get their 'rights'. it costs a fortune, they wait years, and sometimes, perversely, lose. It sickens me (almost as much as the apology for 15 marines and sailors recently in the news ... but don't get me started on THAT!) - Streaky

I say crush the useless heads of the morons who did it personally. The quarter the remains and have them placed at the 4 corners of the kingdom. I just wish my shoulders were as teflon coated as a civil servants.

Discussing the same topic at the same time over at Safe Speed: www.safespeed.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13981 , I wrote: If we're giving these sorts of powers, then we must also make the decision makers personally liable. That rate-payers will foot the bill for this is beyond belief. NO POWER WITHOUT RESPONSIBILITY. EVER.

Bugger, thought the title referred to the city Rediculous that the car was crushed, really don't know how I'd react if that happened to me.

From reading the recent news, I suspect the owner will be well within his rights to get a court order against Lambeth Council and send the bailiffs in to recover the full value of the disputed car + damages + costs. If he does, I can only hope that The Sun is there to report it. These council officials deserve to be publicly named and shamed, in the way that Tony Blair would have common criminals treated.
