M25 cameras - warning from BIB friend

and when it suggests 60 or less, do 60 or less ?
I use the +10 mph rule in the non-NSL bitsof the M25.
The NSL sections, it's the +20 mph rule.
Decades elapsed, thousands of miles on
the M25, nothing.
The day they are nicking folks for
10 mph over on the M25 is the day
I leave and take my tax pounds elsewhere.
They simply haven't got the capacity
to implement this rule.
My understanding was that the variable limit cameras are only type approved to work when a variable limit is showing. I think someone who heleped develop the software for them posted on here years ago.
Certainly I was flashed some years ago at a speed which may or may not have received a ban and heard nothing.

As noted, they're not on every gantry (yet) and being analogue as well are most likely not all loaded with film. I was lead to believe that they only triggered at 90+ but also heard that they're off completely when the limit is NSL.
There are three solutions:
1) Get a camera database on your nav system; it'll tell you which gantries the cameras are on.
2) You may have noticed that if the gantry on the OPPOSITE carriageway has no camera, there is not one on YOUR side of the carriageway either. This appears to have held true for the times I've been bothered to check.
3) Don't speed. Fnarr.
Interesting comments by the Army guys about SPECS and the fact that it actually CAUSES tailgating.. I've been known to snuck behind a tall truck in lane one or two and then enjoy the rest of the 'restriction' at sensible speeds. This is often not related to the speed actually posted. Oh, and if you're a biker then apparently you're free to ignore it completely. Rumours abound of rear-facing systems though - anyone aware of whether these contain any truth?
So far, no ticket though. SPECS really is a dumb idea. In fact, most all of the ideas the Government have relating to road policy are dumb.

There are no cameras on that strecth apart from between J10 and J11 that is unless they've now found a new way to take photos without camera boxes on the gantries. Got that way a few times a day and keep an eye out. They never replaced them after the resurfacing work done over the last couple of years.
I drive the M3 -> M4 section every morning and back again at night, all the gantrys on that stretch currently have nice empty spaces where the Camera's should be. Once past the M3 heading towards Gatwick however the camera boxes are in place on every other gantry.
Today, on my way anticlock the speed limit of 40mph was posted, I just happened to be in lane 2. The outside lane was empty and I observed a Silver ML320 CDI approaching the Gantry that I knew had a camera... before the A3 junction ... I watched in my wing mirror ... the camera only flashed once ! ... I estimate the ML's speed to be about 60-70mph
Additionally, I noted a few workers on the opposite gantry, so I for one will keep a close eye on my speed whatever is posted or not.

I'm sure the M25 cameras do nothing at any reasonable speed when the Variable limits are off. I've watched people drive through camera after camera at 90+ and even 3-digit speeds during many, many, late-night orbits of the capital over more than a decade. I've seen them flash however, when variable limits are in force.
I really hope they do not start to enforce 80 MPH - while it's a carpark during the day, between 11PM and 6AM this would put a significant dent in journey times.

That is the only camera i've ever ever seen go off around the M25, it flashed at me the other day, doing (speedo reading) 55 when the sign said 50....but then i've seen that camera flashing quite a lot recently and only that one!! outseide lane anti clock 1 mile before the A3 turn....strangeAdditionally, I noted a few workers on the opposite gantry, so I for one will keep a close eye on my speed whatever is posted or not.
spose i have a 2 week wait to see if it works! Will keep you posted though!!

I've been going through that section at 70 (or 60...or 50...) for years?! Are you telling me that you've all been going through those speed cameras with 90 on your speedos?!
All you've got to do is watch the cars going past you. Me doing 75 just to be sure (been done by those cameras before), some doing significantly more....There are a lot of warning emails being forwarded about this section of the M25.
FYI, it is NOT the old, established Gatso-enforced section around the A3, this is about the variable speed limit signs between the M3 and the M40.
I was looking VERY carefully at the gantries and it does appear that a small minority of them have some sort of small camera, painted white, hidden behind the mesh to the side of the variable speed limit signs.
No idea if they are potentially digital speed cameras or not.
Aren't they dropping the requirement for cameras to be painted yellow soon?

Top tip: always make sure you aren't the fastest on
the road - that way someone else is in the frame.
Brilliant tip. Really. My pal in the M3 is doing 130, I so can do 129 and the cameras will ignore me.the road - that way someone else is in the frame.
Fancy going for a drive?
On topic, I often sit at 95 leptons around that section at night, I've seen a camera flash once when the VSL was in place. The cameras are off if it's NSL.
