Mikken with posts like that you should have considered staying a 'lurker', as I am not quite sure what your point is apart from to give an opposing opinion and highlight what great (ahem !) work you do.

Tell me, did you ever consider any other form of public service such as doctor, charity worker, VSO etc, etc. Since you highlight your daily / career activities what was it that particularly drew you to the police force?

Also, can someone tell me why the majority of officers are over-weight? When I watch that ‘plod, camera, action’ shows on TV where cops beat up innocent drunks on UK street, as a masquerade for nicking villains, the majority of the officers are overweight.

As a representation of the public investment in a police force aren’t officers meant to be neat tidy and fit for purpose? like their cars or those expensive helicopters that wake you up at 4 in the morning.

Pleased I can make you laugh though Mikken – that would probably be somewhat of a first for a traffic cop !

I just don't get the attitude of you guys. Everything is black and white, no shades of grey, no sense that you are in public service and have paying customers – unbelievable.

If I developed that attitude in my work I'd have no customers and make no money.

Munter just for the record (little black book) I am not 'angry' at the police.

If you'd taken the time to read my posts I am a supporter of the police as long as they are professional, courteous and have a dedication to serving their customers.

I have a clean license, been stopped a couple of times for various things, always been courteous and helpful. Have a LGV 1 , full motorcycle licenses have been driving various things all my life without incident.

Mostly my interaction with traffic have been OK, when in a truck (many years ago) they have been mosly bent-as-ars*hol*s and always looking to nick something from the back.

I am now a senior business leader in a $10bn corporation. I know what good customer service is and how to win business and grow a company, and the police, particularly traffic exhibit non of those traits. I am well traveled, have experience police forces in many different counties including third-world.

I am on this forum to try and understand what drives you people and your polarized attitudes, which are exceptional among European police forces and possibly responsible for exacerbating most of the delinquent behavior we see in city centers in the UK most weekends. I would like our police force to be amongst the best in world, not going the other way.

I suspect it will not be long before my posts are edited by the moderator, since this kind of challenging debate is easier dealt with by censorship that intelligent opposition.

Re the overweight question.

define 'overweight'

Are you using BMI, percentage body fat index or, er, what?

I'm on here to understand as well, although I have to say my experience of police overseas hasn't been so good... but as said on here many times, it's the laws and judiciary/government that set them which sometimes causes the problem. I very much doubt, however, that the delinquent behaviour in city centres can be blamed on the UK police rofl

‘OB’ isn’t saying that it’s the law or judiciary’s fault a bit like concentration camp guards saying “it’s just my job” (to gas load of jews ?) and that they’re actually really nice people outside work.

I did not say delinquent behaviours ‘was’ caused by UK police I said it was “exacerbated” by UK police.

I have lost count of the number of times young officers stand around busy pubs on Saturday night waiting for the opportunity to be offended !!! and get some good experience of nicking people in the bag. Albeit defenceless drunken ones

Disgraceful waste of public funding!

No, you are mistaken - there are no unfit officers rolleyes It's just Uniform Services .... they employ someone to change all the labels so when stuff arrives for you it is always the wrong size biggrin

It takes alot of effort to make uniform sized so badly biglaugh

Agreed.
I wish drunk people would behave, Sadly they don't.
Any more amazing insights?

Nice response - really !

Only one last insight below...you've probably heard it before

Just remember that your standing on a planet that's evolving,
and revolving at nine hundred miles an hour...
That's orbiting at ninety miles a second, so it's reckoned,
the sun that is the source of all our power.
The sun and you and me, and all the stars that we can see,
are moving at a million miles a day.
in an outer spiral-arm at forty thousand miles an hour
of the galaxy we call the Milky Way.

(and now a piece for all you plods)……

So remember when your feeling very small and insecure,
how amazingly unlikely is your birth,
and pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'cause there's bugger-all down here on earth!

I beg to differ - lots of people of which some commit crime and the BiB have to deal with (inbetween raising other peoples kids, fighting others battles and fixing others messes) all whislt trying to stay sane.

Well, for a start, you're that clever, you can't even quote the right poster. I was once an officer in the armed forces. When I left, I became a Police Officer. I guess I my reading and sums just weren't good enough to become a vicar

As for 'polarised' attitudes, the only person displaying a bigoted view is you. You generalise and accuse, making sweeping statements that all officers are 'overweight' or 'scruffy'. And when they're at work at 4am, I'm sure you're tucked up safe and sound in your duvet. I'm sure you're a very tolerant person and an exceptional manager of a multi-billion pound business. One day, I might be as good as you. And should you ever want a race over the odd mile or three, give me a shout. I'm sure you'd have no trouble. smile

Straight from the 'forces' the police force - that figures.

Did you get any other job offers?

Please be polite.

On that last point – happily race you over any distance you like.

I’m 6ft 4” 13st and compete in quite a lot of fitness events for charity. Most recently the Microsoft Challenge where I raised over 6k for NCH the children charity.

Not all business types are pot bellied lunching parasites, although I can see why you might think that given some of the morons I have to work with every day.

Makes me wonder how they get themselves up and dressed in a morning and to the right building, let along any useful work done.

Have you seen those custard chocolate iced donuts from krispy kreme, they're so good, if only we had one nearby frown

Nope.
I shall not be tempted. I'll stick to fresh lardy cake, warmed in the microwave, washed down with tea, 3 sugars please.
