There are now average speed cameras round that section, right?
No these are the gatso type cameras in the gantries.

Since that section of the road was widened and new gantries added there have been no cameras for ages so we have been lulled into a false sense of security, however I had not seen an increase in incidents during that camera free time.

Now slowly the gantries are filling with cameras again...... ££££££

Very true, since they widened this stretch the gantries were completely empty up until earlier this week where brand spanking new Gatsos have been installed. I also noticed what looked like a second camera next to each Gatso but not sure what they are, maybe infra red or just CCTV. The real bummer is they have put a set in one gantry before you come of for T5 where it goes back up to national speed limit, I assume trying to catch people naturally accelerating for the sign up ahead.. revenue I think! In the past I have seen people fly through here at 90mph + when the limit is 50 so up until now they may have got away with it.

Noticed this morning on the drive to work new cameras on the gantrys:

Clockwise:

1. Just before j15
2. Between j13 and 14
3. Between j12 and 13

Anti-Clockwise:

1. Between j13 and 14
3. Between j12 and 13

Anyone know how long they've been up? are they activated yet? There didn't seem to be any cameras on the outside lanes...yet!

Cheers,

Jamie
I came off the M4 onto the M25 at around 70 (ish) and one of those variable's was signing for 50 immediatly as I joined. I'm guessing the thing wasn't working though, as I haven't gotten a letter and this was three weeks ago.

All the cameras are live J17 to J10.

At set at ACPO guide lines
What cameras and guidelines are you referring to?
We had a memo at work (Metpol Traffic OCU)come round, stating the cameras on the gantries were all live and set at the ACPO speed enforcement guidelines.
Limit Fixed Penalty Summons
20 mph 25 mph 35 mph
30 mph 35 mph 50 mph
40 mph 46 mph 66 mph
50 mph 57 mph 76 mph
60 mph 68 mph 86 mph
70 mph 79 mph 96 mph
The list lines of figs should be under the summons heading.
Just so that I understand you right, are you saying that the 70 mph limit on the M25 wont actually trigger a camera until a reading of 96 mph?

Just wanting to be clear.

Because I've heard of people getting hit by cameras in a 30 zone, doing 37, which is a long way short of the 50 mph you have listed there.

Thanks.

Living up North I have only used this bit of M25 a couple of times and each time the traffic was moving at a snails pace. Does the traffic actually get chance to move at a speed to require speed cameras?scratchchin

Oh right. That explains it then. Thanks for the warning. I know I for one will be braking much harder when I approach the gantries from now on biggrin

If this was true, we'd have a list of people by now contradicting my statement that nobody has been done. Let's sit back and wait for someone to chirp up. I've been in a car many times through there where the driver has no respect for those limits whatsoever, and he/she has never had a single ticket.

Er, my father was done by one of these cameras a while back (a few years). Are these the ones with the glowing speed limit signs in front of them, or something new and recent.

Can confirm that the 'old' cameras are giving out tickets (not to me though as yet). it seems they are ONLY on when the speed limit is on. So 60 when it reads 50 is bad, but 100 when they show nothing is fine.

Er, no. What goskins17 is saying is that when the sign is set at 70 (doesn't show 70 of course) the camera is triggered at 79mph (10% + 2) leading to a NOIP (presumably) but at speeds of 96mph and above you will receive a summons to appear in court for consideration of a ban - Streaky

PS - the cameras can be "live" - i.e. flashing - even if there is no (anecdotal) evidence of anyone receiving a NOIP or summons - S

Ahh, many thanks for clearing that up (I'm obviously having a blonde moment).

Any idea what the frequency band of the cameras is now? I ask because I went through on Sturday with my trusty V1 and it didn't make a peep yet I saw at least one camera flash on the other carriageway.

Not too sure but my S5R is picking up the new style cameras. Saw 3 people get flashed this morning and another 2 on the way home. Couldn't believe some people flying through a 50 limit at over 80!

I know what you mean, but there's never been cameras there before, so it hasn't been a problem! Just unexpected I guess, which I know is stupid because the signs have been up for years, but why would you expect them to change?

Bit daft to admit to speeding in a public forum but what's done, is done.

I was round this bit a few weeks back and it was insane.

Light traffic, generally moving at 80 mph +, with variable speed limits changing all the time - 40, 50 back to 40, then 60 and NSL, then 40 etc. You get the idea. Not sure if there was a fault or something...

Pretty much everyone was completely ignoring them, if anyone had decided to suddenly break to 40 for fear of a ticket, it could well have caused a crash.

We really do have some muppets running these systems.
