yes How true, anyone seen the law enforcement in the film 'Demolition Man', that's how things will be soon, controlling everyone from a central location by CCTV and issuing fines ...... rolleyes

'Layabout, you are fined one credit for a violation of the verbal morality statute.' biggrinlaugh

Other things you get fined for in 'Demolition Man' are; Bad language, child play, gasoline, uneducational toys, and anything spicy. And no pregnancy, if you don't have a license. laughbiggrin

Now, here's something I don't understand. I've been done for speeding on numerous occasion, twice it went to court. The reulst? Fines and points on my licence. No. people killed/injured/hurt = 0. Value of property damged = £0. Now, many years ago I was shunted by a driver not looking where he was going. He wasn't prosecuted at all but wrote off my car AND genuinly hurt my neck, which took about 2 months to recover from. Now, how does that work then?
Now look mate, the to55 pot that hit you is not going to net the local authority or police any extra cash to help fund their pensions shortfall is it?

You and the millions of others who get nicked for petty motoring offences, are like a blank chequebook. It's great. Need a bit of extra cash to buy a few new Police X5's, let's nip out with the laser guns and wear full reflective clothing but hide behind a tree. Then when Joe Public is pulled, we can even take the piss by saying 'it's not like we're invisible is it?'.

Welcome to new Britain.

looks a lot smaller and stealthier than normal (thus less of a visual deterrent) mor chance of it raising revenue then.

would be beneficial if it checks number plates to be linked to the insurance/tax/MOT databases to catch out non paying motorists, but i doubt it
The SCPs could do that now couldn't they? They do record the plate, but I never heard of them prosecuting for no insurance, MOT or tax. I suppose it must be outside their brief but it would make sense to me for them to check everything at the same time.

The third post is where the old Gatso was positioned and that is the reason that there are 2 sets of timing markings too.

At least if it's all in one central location it will be easier to take it out.

Can we please ban the word "Safety" when talking about these things. They are SPEED cameras. They are activated by speed, not how safely you are driving. 35mph in a 30 and it will go off. 29mph backwards whilst wearing a blindfold and steering with your bare feet and it will not.

That is all!!

I wonder what's wrong with the old technology. It'd be interesting to see whether or not anybody high up in road safety policy had a large chunk of share options with a company that makes these things (or a subsidiary company that makes a vital speed camera widget).

VladD, you are quite correct they are speed cameras, if they were useful they'd be called unisured/unregistered/unMOT'd cameras, and catch road users that cause a huge amount of heart ache every year.

I hate that phrase 'Safety Camera' too mad

The fun of motoring has been thourghly destroyed by a massive lack of investment in the road infastructure (despite the huge voume of revenue taken from the motorist through Vehicle tax, fuel tax and fines) and of course the fact that the motorist is blindly penalised for minimal speed infractions caught by technology instead of actual police presense capturing real criminals.

I'm not even going to start on the quality of driving and the classifications of road speed limits.

Don't get me wrong but safety improving or not (more likely not), the vast majority of people have anything ranging from a mild dislike to a rabid hatred of these bloody things. The government have offered this as a solution to road safety and we the general public politely decline. Now p**s off with all these poxy cameras already! WE DON'T WANT THEM.

how many would I sell before the ice cream vendors realised they can't make money out of selling ice cream any more?

The thing that really pisssess me off is the cost of implementing these new cameras. I know that they willl make a hell of a lot in the future but its the initial outlay that is the problem.

It will cost millions and milions of tax payers money to replace the existing cameras, this money which comes from our pockets must be spent in order to put the scheme into place, money which could have gone to improving the shocking state of our roads, or proper maintenance on bushes that never get cut so you cant see whats coming at a turning. You can bet your balls that this money will not be returned into the areas where it has been taken from.

They say that the cameras in place are not profitable anyway, even though billions have been made since their introduction, they are only making enough to keep them in operation.

There is some serious mismanagement in our government, its frightnening the vast amount of our money that is being wasted every minute from tinpot schemes to whole unjustifiable departments set up that appear to only burn money.

One day it must be exposed, i cant see who would have the balls to do it, not media thats for sure but whoever does is going to reveal some shocking stuff. Every penny possible is squezzed out of us and new ways to get more are revealed on a weekly basis. yet our countries buggered we see nothing in return, public services are falling apart, roads are a mess we all know the problems but it shouldnt be this way.

Driving quickly is not necessarily dangerous. Driving dangerously is dangerous. I would be all for a system that caught nobbers driving like nobbers, but please, leave us alone and stop peddling the safety c**p we keep hearing. I've already had to take a hit on tax and petrol prices. As for that accident mentioned earlier, and it being passed off as an accident, what about accidentally speeding? We're not computers. I suppose they'll never bring in technology to keep speeds down automatically in cars as this would slash the amount they make on us poor motorists...
