Brunstrom on drugs
Discussion
Oh yeah - back when Heroin was legal we all know why don't we? It was farmed in the east, refined in Britain then shipped back en masse to China in an attempt to create a state-backed monopoly, a nation of desperate drug addicts reliant upon Britain and British exports. The emperor thankfully noticed this in time and the Opium Wars began. Nowadays we have BAR. Not so bad, but imagine what they'd do if they got their hands on legal Heroin? The already get millions of young Africans addicted to smoking as it is to test out their new brands before they hit the rest of the world.
Also, when Heroin, Cocaine and so on were legal we had no idea what the real effects were. It took several painful and destructive experiments to realise the drugs would be better off illegal. Just because something makes you 'feel' good doesn't mean it is. The human brain is an extremely complex tool, and the 'rush' is actually it yelling 'shiiiit' and desperately trying to counteract an unnatural imbalance with overproduction of cerebral chemicals.
Drug legalisation will not improve the crime problem. Addicts will steal to pay - doesn't matter how much it is or where it comes from. If it's cheap it just means they'll buy more of it.
Also, Drug dealers will just change their tack, bringing in dodgy imports of the stuff mixed with God-knows-what, and selling it even cheaper than the state's stuff, meaning that kids will buy it with their pocket money. Addicts given heroin from the state will supplement it with the street product, as they already do with their Methadone whilst on rehab.

Slightly O/T but can anyone fill in the figures:
How many people are killed by speeding?
How many people exceed the speed limit?
How many people are killed by Drug abuse?
How many people use hard drugs?
I would wager that there are many more speeders than Drug users.
I would also wager that there are many more deaths from drug abuse than speeding (or even motoring in general)
The man has a serious priority misunderstanding.
More speeders than drug users? Yes, I expect there are. One drug, tobacco - perfectly legal, highly taxed and responsible for 100,000 deaths per annum in the UK. Is that the Brunstrom way of doing things? It seems that it is.
Wildcat, you clearly have no idea at all of the cost incurred by the NHS treating tobacco and alcohol related diseases and those caused by the abuse of other drugs. Don't take my word for it, go talk to your cousin the medic and ask what % of hospitalised patients are there becoz of booze and fags.

And what percentage of hopital patients are still there, crippled or dead because of cock-ups by overworked harassed and tired NHS staff?

ATG - you seem a bit keen on legalising drugs to me!
Never said that cost of treating illnesses brought on by booze and fags was not costing NHS dear already! But booze and fags are more readily available - get hold of them everywhere! What would happen if hard drugs were as readily available? MORE addicts and more serious addiction, together with horrendous drug related illnesses - none of which cheap to treat!
Legalise the stuff - you will have more addicts as a result. Can assure you that cost to NHS will rocket as result! (Know cost of treatments - work in the industry!)
Dr Wildcat -Cousin, Dr Wildkatze, Dr. Mad Moggie, Dr Alleycat and Prof Chat Sauvage have all given me a projected cost of treating addict-related illnesses should this become legal. Based on current budgets, cost of treatments, not to mention their meagre salaries, the cost to the NHS would be huge! Potentially much higher than treatment of booze and fag related illnesses.
Our weird one in Wales reckoned the State should provide the drugs. Why should taxpayers fund someone's bad habits? The cost of supplying the drug is the opportunity cost of another's essential treatment! Not to mention the simple fact, that the one fix supplied by the State will never be enough, so he or she will resort to crime to provide the next fix.
If you make them pay for the drugs, then there would probably be an even more whopping tax than that on tobacco. The addict would simply turn to crime to pay his supplier!
Legalisation cannot be way forward!
Better education on the dangers and more police work catching drug dealers - instead of concentrating on talivan activity would be the right place to start!

My prescription shall consist of an unlimited supply of Shell's finest optimaxx thank you ever so much, at state cost, of course!
I wish to partake in the "abuse of my body" proscribed by Broomstump, by subjecting it to large, lethal and otherwise sustained doses of acceleratis incredibilious. I would wish not only to abuse myself(steady on) but also those who my nefarious speeding activities will undoubtedly bring me into contact with...although i am hastened to add, not physically!!
"Whats wrong with it?" says a dopey cockeyed Brownstripe? Ah well me old cack-handed sheep interefering uber-plod from the land that brains forgot.....in a word, fook-all!!
The pedants amongst you will have instantly realised my deliberate mistake, that theres's only one "x" in Optimax...
Ramblings of a demented mind aside...(not mine!...oh all right then, mine...happy now?) id like to wish a happy valentines day to all and sundry.
