Police cars exempt from Road Tax?
Discussion
Girlfriend got pulled over for talking on her phone (which, yes, is stupid), however I noticed the police car had no tax disc. When I pointed out their disc was missing the first officer said "Oh, er, it probably just fell out" (which is odd seeing as they slide in from the top). The second officer then chirped up "We're exempt anyway mate".
A case of one rule for them, another for us?

I've phoned the police station and asked them myself. Apparently they have to display a tax disc as per any other driver on the road and if they aren't displaying tax it was suggested I report them to the DVLA as per any other vehicle without tax

Okay. So you're telling me that Police forces pay road tax for their vehicles? They don't by the way.....
it's still a requirement to display the disc as per any other exempt vehicle, to not do so is an offence as it would be for joe public. Are you suggesting the police should be above the law rather than lead by example?

Take the hook out of your mouth.

It's not their car so they wouldn't pay for it anyway, hardly one rule for one and another for anotherA case of one rule for them, another for us?

Police vehicles are exempt i.e. the rate is NIL.Unless of course you want all police vehicles to pay road tax in which case I'm sure more would come from public coffers? Of course you'll whinge about that as well.
Also other vehicles such as RNLI, Mountain Rescue etc vehicles are exempt as well. Do you care to have a moan about that?
A question. Most nicks are short of vehicles. A car is found in the yard with no tax disc. It either hasn't been replaced, or it's fallen out, or the garage hand has taken it out for some reason. Would people rather the vehicle didn't leave the yard for days whilst a new disc is sorted out? Or, because tax isn't paid on it anyway, the vehicle leaves the yard onto the public road and benefits the community?
