Well I can sort of see her point really - would you want to bring your kids up thinking that they can avoid the consequences of their infractions or would you want them to learn that they have to take responsibility for their actions.. ?

Hey guys lets not slag off my mum!

I didn't expect her to take the rap and wouldn't want her to. I was kind of hoping she might say she didn't know who was driving so come and prove who was driving but alas 'twas not to be.
Still, its all in the past now and I can carry on saving for my TVR/Caterfield/Anything with more than 49bhp

Is there anyway you could have said "Jumping red lights?!?! Meeeeeeee! There Must be some mistake!" or even proved that it was your mum driving???

Indeed, my mum would have made me take the rap too...

Better sill, my dad would have confiscated anything of value from me, including money, to stop me taking another test or buying another car!

Tried the whole "Its got to be a mistake!" thing but my parents are numpties and reckon police are always right, and fair, and totally on a moral highground.

There also: "A car is to get from A to B and nothing more!" and middle laners (not as bad as some though) and telepathic indicatorers! (Is that a word?)

PS. tvradict, hope you get through the rest of your two years without incident. Most of my mates have managed it but even if you don't retests are easy (although it is an expensive business

Just a re-test? hey you chaps are lucky!!! In Germany and France one has to do a psychological test with government trickcyclists who are paid to fail you. Costs around 2500 to 3500 Euros! You have to be a submissive unopinionated greeny pinko to be able to pass, as they bait everyone to see if they react to their agressive numptie questioning. One point out of order and you'll NEVER get a license again!
This was originally designed for alcoholics caught driving but it has been expanded to cover the "criminally insane" driving population!!!

April 2001, 2 o'clock in the morning. On my way home, behind a landrover and a 3 series doing about 60. Dead straight wide road with the odd building every 100 yards or so. All of a sudden, Blue lights fill my mirror (Ted we need a smilie for "Just sh@t myself!") Pull over, sit, wait, sh1t myself some more. Get escorted to the back seat of the T5. Get the usual patronising police speech: young drivers, powerful cars (Rover 25, yeah right), speed kills (not comment required), dangerous conditions, no wonder insurance is sky high etc. I'm all yes sir, no sir, 3 bags full sir. Apparently I was doing 59.82mph (How do they measure it so accurately?????? . If I'd have been doing 60 they'd have taken me to court. Counted myself lucky and went on my way VERY slowly. In the end 3 points and £60.

Tough, but if you're doing 60 in a 30 not a bad result. Even us old gits get the preaching (I know from experience). Sometimes I reckon they quote 0.xx under the 30mph ban threshold to warn how close you are to a ban. I got done for 98.7 mph on the M6 years ago and happily took the points and fine in court as I knew I had been doing 120mph before I saw the jam sandwich on a bridge and hit the brakes.

He only went in cos he thought he saw posh in there - but Stavros had just served the last of the meat off the doner.

How much of a bad driver would you have to be to get points before you pass your test? Would the "responsible" person in the passenger seat get done as well?

This is prob more relevant to the herberts who collect points at 14 driving knicked Novas around with their caps on backwards whilst wearing "I Shagged Jordan" T Shirts.

I'm not sure if many legitimate learners get nicked, however if you are the licenced passenger who is instructing then you are deemed to be in charge of the car in the same way as if you were the driver. If you don't accept that or trust the driver under instruction then you shouldn't put yourself in that position.

Everyones mum is ace. I am probably a bit older than you but when I go and see my mum I make sure I slag off the green b@st@rds a bit and have a dig at Tony and the speed bumps etc. This has been going on for a few years. Now when my mum meets councillors and magistrates and other blue rinse types, she barracks the buggers by very nicely saying things like. Well I cant understand why all the nice young men are being persecuted by all these silly speed cameras and bumps and things, I mean after all they are paying for us all arn't they"? The other week she met a police inspector and said " Now look hear youn man I hope your men are usefully employed catching criminals not wasting time setting up speed traps" The poor sod was absolutely floored.

The point is that all our mothers are very useful, if they say the sorts of things we say here, people sit up and listen. Especially if it is to other old women. Any mention of young men and it gets them all nostalgic for the open road and the back of that Ford Zephyr etc

Get yer mothers trained

Why?

I'll tell you whats f####d up, got banned 4 years ago. never drove on bann, untill Police phoned to say a property I owned had been broken into and could I attend, knowing who I was, no other people around or that I could phone, so I drove as it was an emergency, when I turned up, they arrested me for driving whilst on a bann, night in cells, in court the next day! in prison for three weeks the next! hows that! no prior! but i'm not bitter, of course.
