did you leave the keys on a silver plate next to the front door?

There should be no problem with settlement after a break in. It happened to a couple of my neighbours recently. The one I talk to was paid out within a normal time-scale, about four weeks in his case. His car was recovered shortly after payout and the insurance company dealt with it.

LOL

I only asked because you would be shocked if you saw where some of my friends leave their car keys overnight

My car + bikes..etc are worth F-CK ALL (compared to most on here) but I still leave my keys somewhere VERY secure overnight

Similarly we don't leave the keys where they can be seen or reached from the letterbox/window etc. But not that secure once you're in the right place. If they have broken into the house I'd sooner have them take the keys on their own and not come and ask me for them.

Yeah I see what you are saying...mine are not Steal to order or particularly desirable type vehicles though, otherwise I'd rethink about where the keys are kept overnight

If that WAS the case for me, then somewhere out of sight and downstairs would be preferable smile

There has to be middle ground between a Silver pate next to the front door and in the otherhalfs knicker drawer wink

What's happened to car thieves these day. Lazy bunch of censored! Back in the day you used to have to break into a car bypass the alarm before it went off, slide hammer or screw driver the ingnition, start and drive off. Any proplems were overcome, like immobilisers and when not. Now they just take your keys! Lazy tallentless censored Chav censoredcensored drugged up censoredcensored! wink

Isn't it great car security has got so good the car can only feasibly be stolen with the keys, so now it's household security that needs to catch up.

I leave my keys in the dog basket. Like to see the thief get them from my odd (he sleeps during day and humps the crap out of everything during the night) and perma-pissed off german sheppherd dog.

It's the missus' Jack Russell you should fear, though.

Good to see some sympathy, even if the op has deleted his post.

7 years ago my car was pinched in this way, a real a pain in the arse.

I thought of you as I was reading this Broccers - did they ever pay out in the end?

Across the street kept their Merc keys in their bedroom. One broken patio door, 3 stab wounds and a missing Merc was the result.

If they want it, they'll take it.

Yes, altho it wasn't simple. Car was actually recovered 2 years later just as I was transferring my private plate over to another car ..... dvla had no clue what they should be doing on that one.

Hiding your keys is not a solution, improve your home security.

The best home security goes "woof" in my humble opinion, it doesn't need to be big & vicious, just bark, intruders don't like that.
