I took my 1994 Griffith 500 for its MOT today... No pre cats and no main cat..

Nothing, just a straight through manifold into a silencer and then out the backmad

Passed with easesmile

CO Max 3.50% Mine 0.86%

HC Max 1200ppm Mine 492ppm

No funny business.... Fully legit MOTsmile
Interesting... mines due in the next couple of weeks, still got the dustbin fitted, but i may invest in a decat version if it may be ok without the faff of refitting every year.
I think the HC limit on my 2003 Evo is 200 ppm. frown

The rules have changed several times since the catalyst check was introduced, this link should help, it's the online VOSA test manual.

http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m3i00000001.htm

The Griffith 500 above will have a non cat test carried out because there will be no exact match in the emissions database whereas the 2003 Evo will as (presuming it's no an import) it's after the 1995 cut off date for non cat vehicles, imports and certain other vehicle types can be a challenge to get the correct limits applied at some MoT stations, but if the rules are read properly (there's the problem!)then it's not a problem at all.

Spot onsmile

Thats pretty much exactly what comes up on the screen...

Somthing like "No specific emissions data. For this vehicle. Perform non cat Test"
Yes, if it was 1995 (N reg.) onwards then there is a non specific test to carry out, seen a lot of cars this age that have arrived at our station with an oncorrect failure sheet due to the tester having not been bothered to look it up properly and picked the nearest option, gained a few return customers thanks to these other places too. smile

And if you tell the tester it's an older engine you'll get an earlier test. My tester says they don't have to go looking for engine numbers.

Correct, but you have to prove the age. As mentioned below.
