No, the credit card company can't charge your card. Even if they try and put administration charges on, have them reversed as an unauthorized transaction.
I think you may want to check a hire car contract before making that statement. All contracts I have seen state that you agree to charges being applied in the event of speeding/parking other fines being levied.

To utilise their own terms.

Chuck 'em a brown eye, and tell 'em you don't give a rat's ass.

Why would you want to go back to Australia, unless you left something over there by accident?

A inhospitable baron land with nasty poisonous critters, and that's just the politicians, that's only claims to world admiration are Holden Commodores (and their variants), Marcos Ambrose, Mick Doohan, Rolf Harris, and Paul Hogan. The rest of it is crap. Perhaps with the exception of the Wilson family of Cargoolie, and Nigel.
You forgot Dame Edna!

That was very wicked and I'm tempted to call in the forum administrators.

I got a $197 fine when I was over there. Have no intention to go back over the next few years, but I still paid up, and they had my old address on my licence, so I could have hidden for a bit longer.

Being part of the commonwealth they will chase you and send bills back home, and you won't be able to get in without paying a fine (or worse) on arrival if you are returning soon, it's common to not be let out too and have to pay the fine (+ interest) during departure.

The Ozzie government are really really anal and make the UK seem rather good in comparison when it comes to 'road traffic offences'. So if you want peace of mind (especially as you're returning) pay up.

Lose the credit card you used for the hire car so they wont be able to add any charges to it later as the replacement card will have different numbers.

And what on earth made you go to Australia? Are you a convict?

Hi to everybody.

I need a bit of advice.... whilst cruising around New South Wales, Australia, I have managed to pick up three minor speeding tickets which I refuse to pay. I return to England on 4th October 2010 and will be coming back to Australia sometime later that month for a further five weeks. My question is; will my unpaid speeding tickets hamper my return to or exit from Australia? Does anybody know how long it takes before such traffic offences are logged with immigration, if at all? If this was to be logged, would this apply in every state or would I just be blacklisted in New South Wales?

I would appreciate any advice and would like to hear from people with a similar experience. Thanks for your help!

Carlos
I've had tickets in every aussie state bar NT, and my advice is pay .....The aussies are far more organised than a lot of countries and there is a chance you may not be allowed back into the country if these havent been paid...

All those nice straight roads are good fun but you're gonna get caught at some point...

I currently have 6 Victoria tickets outstanding from hire cars I used between Nov 07 and Oct 09, of which 2 went to court and final demand letters were sent to my UK address.

I have never acknowledged nor paid any of these fines, have successfully re-entered Oz at multiple points over 10 times since the first ticket was issued, successfully had a 457 visa issued with 5 outstanding tickets and even be given Police Security clearance so I could work on a clients site that processed all of Victorias speed camera fines.

So, in my opinion you should be fine, I believe the only system linked to Australia's immigration is their Tax office (ATO), as the only time I was pulled up my immigration was when I had applied for a Tax File Number prior to gaining 457 visa status.
